Pam, I also believe that Charles A. Shelby was a son of Moses A. and Martha Washington Polk Shelby. I don't have any proof either. As you can see by the 1850 census below, they were neighbors living in the 3rd Civil district. Martha, who has married Samuel Wells, and Charles were next-door neighbors in the 1840 census. We know Thomas D. Shelby was a son because of court records and deeds, but I have found nothing to tie Charles to Moses, Thomas D. or Martha. David 1850 CENSUS HARDIN CO., TN 7-7 Thomas D. Shelby Article David, Thank you for the information re: the Historian. I am connected to the Shelby's though my husband. His mother was Flora Juanita Shelby. Her father was Lillian Helton Shelby. His father was William Robert Shelby. His father was Charles A. Shelby. Then it gets confusing. I've been told Charles' father was Moses Shelby but can't find the proof. I feel he's connected somehow, just don't know how. Will keep looking and collecting what I can on the Shelbys. Thanks alot, Pam
