Pam, I also believe that Charles A. Shelby was a son of Moses A. and Martha Washington Polk Shelby. I don't have any proof either. As you can see by the 1850 census below, they were neighbors living in the 3rd Civil district. Martha, who has married Samuel Wells, and Charles were next-door neighbors in the 1840 census. His father was William Robert Shelby. His father was Charles A. Shelby. Then it gets confusing. I've been told Charles' father was Moses Shelby but can't find the proof.
