Wes, The court records in Hardin Co., TN show that Francis Coburn was in this county from 1839 to 1845. I see that your family chart does not show any of his children born in Hardin Co.? There are other Cockburns/Colburns/Coburns living in Hardin Co. Are they related to Francis? Have you seen the following: "Catherine Polk of Hardin Co., TN appoints Francis 'Cabourn' [sic -- this is Francis Cobourn] attorney to recover from Adam Clontz, Executor of Jeremiah Clontz's estate .....which have descended to me as Heir-At-Law" signed Catherine Polk, 9-2-1844." I believe this was in Union Co., NC. Catherine Clontz Polk, 1798-ca 1870, was my g/g/g/grandmother. I'm going to send you what I have on the Coburn line and the connection to the Coveys. Well, I said I was going to send the Coburn line, just checked and I've lost some info, I only go back to Francis, I have the info, but all hand written and has to find it. I know, it goes back pretty far, to a Cockburn and one of the sons changed it to Coburn, That may even be wrong. Anyway, let me kno. Please fill me in on things. First, Francis Coburn was from the eastern part of Mecklenburg Co., NC, that part which was settled mostly by Germans. The exact linage of the Polks is not known, but they are supposed to be Irish or Scottish. Francis Coburn was in Anson Co., NC in 1800. He was in Hardin Co. TN by 1840. The Choctaws were centered around Jackson MS. > >Dicey Polk Coburn was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Shelby Polk. The Polks and Shelbys probably came to NC from the eastern shores of MD. Supposedly the Polks lived in PA for a while. > >Do you have the genealogy of the Coburn family in Hardin County? What happened to Francis Coburn after 1845? >David > ----- Original Message ----- > From: wes covey > To: [email protected] > Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 4:34 PM > Subject: Cuburn/Polk > > > Thanks for replying. Now, I have another question. The family swears up and down that there is Indian in the Coburn line. But from all I can find, nothing shows up. The story goes that Martha Coburn Covey who was the daughter of Dicy Polk and Francis Coburn was full blooded Choctaw, again, nothing...... can you sled some light on any of this?
