David, My great uncle William Henry White, about the same age as William Augustus "Gus" White, appears to have been the witness or bondsman when Gus and A P D Love were married. I think the father of Gus was Lidge White who shows in the 1850 census as follows: 1850 Cen. Hardin Co. TN 2nd C. D. 3-3 Elijah White 29 NC Sanesta J. 22 TN Wilie M. 1 TN I learned from Inez Michaels that family lore suggested that Lidge was killed during the Civil War. Recently I found a bit of evidence to support this theory. In the spring of 1863, Lige White shot and killed a Bivens who was with a raiding party trying to steal his horses. To quote Joab Russell, "The Tory Army stampeded the sicesh, captured their arms and horses. After this Madden (James Madison Russell?) and Lige went into Mr. Forests Critter Company and when grab got scarcd, Lige run away again, went home, turned Tory, but was unable to make his new friends believe his conversion was genuine and they sent him off to prison where he died.
