Carter, You will note the 1840 census below, those Whites in the 2nd C. D. were the group from Bertie Co., NC and they were living at or near the community which would become know as Cerro Gordo ca 1849. This group came here in the 1830's and were joined by the family of Reuben White in the 1840's. See Ladicia White in the 1850 census below. Nowell White married Nancy J. Russell. Is Nowell named for his mother? Thomas White remained on the seat since of the Tennessee River, while his mother Ladicia and the rest of her family moved across the River to near Saltillo.
