There are literally thousands of people who have been jumping in and putting information on line that they have not verified or documented, and much of it turns out to be wrong. It confuses people's family searches, and worse, still other amateurs will pick up the wrong info, paste it into their own files, and perpetuate the problem over and over again. There are a lot of people that get help that way, however, so use those published lines with great care, but use them if you need to. Family Tree Maker, has been selling people's genealogy lines they have been provided free of charge, for many years, through their numerous CDs, so making money off people's genealogy searches is not new for any of these companies.
