    3. Denise, It is my understanding that your Thomas or his brothers Jesse or John, one of those, shot William Polk. Do you know if one or any of those guys was in the Civil War? Hi David, I'm not sure if he is the right Jesse Dobbins. How many can there have been in Savannah? My grandfather's sister was Mary 'Mollie' Spencer who married Thomas W Dobbins. Their son, Carl, was the one who was killed on death row in Texas, and his brother was Jesse Dobbins, born in 1891. I believe he was born in Savannah. Denise Denise, I don't know much about the Dobbins family. In 1850, Jesse B. Dobbins lived next door to the John Polk family. 1850 Census, Hardin Co., TN 3rd C. D. 48-48 John Polk 42 SC blacksmith Keziah 42 SC Catherine E. 13 SC William H. 10 TN Elias W. 7 TN Rebecca M. 5 TN America A. 2 TN 49-49 Jesse B. Dobbins 45 SC farmer Milly 43 TN Thomas W. 17 TN Jesse M. 14 TN John W. 12 TN Mary J. 8 TN When the Civil War came along, apparently these two families were on apposing sides. One of the Dobbins boys shot and killed William H. Polk who was of the Confederate persuasion. Dobbins apparently had joined a local Federal unit. There are not many details, my information came down through the family of the Polks. William H. Polk was married to my distant cousin. Mary L. "Polly" Cagle. They had two children, Betty who married John Morris and Tennie who married Alexander Bain. William was buried in Bain Cemetery then moved to Mt. Herman. The rest of his family were buried at Mt Herman. Are you descended from this Dobbins family I have outlined above? Yes, Jesse Dobbins, who was born in 1891, was one of Carl's brothers. Their mother was my grandfather's sister. Carl did kill his mother in law, but apparently it was an accident. He and his wife had seperated and she had moved home to her parents house with the kids. Carl was mad that he couldn't see his children, and in anger he shot through the front door, killing his mother in law. I have a couple of letters he wrote a cousin of ours from prison when he was on death row. That was in 1935. Denise ps any info you have on the Dobbins family I'd be interested in.
