    3. Kathy, is that just for Hardin County? My maternal grandfather died in Obion county in 1944 and his mother, my great-grandmother died here in 1946....Terrible loss for you in Hardin, but tragic if that loss is for the whole state! sharon From: Kathy Dell <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 12:41:18 -0500 To: [email protected] Subject: [TNHARDIN] records lost and just plain gone Resent-From: [email protected] Resent-Date: Thu, 25 Mar 2004 10:41:03 -0700 I sent a request to the archives in Nashville for a death certificate for 1945 in Hardin Co. I got a response that "record not found for years 1944-1946". Anybody know what happened to these records? Would there have been an estate opened for everyone that died? Or, in the case of an elderly woman living with her daughter's family, would it have been very light on the paper work? I am so let down about this! 3. It sounds like the Archives checked the records from 1944-1946 for the death certificate she requested but they didn't find it. I ran into the same situation when I tried to get a death certificate for my great-grandfather who died in 1937 in Wayne County. Apparently it was never filed and as I somewhat jokingly say, "They didn't bother with the paper work. They just dug a hole and tossed him in." The kids did however make sure the property was sold so I do have some documentation about when he died. I also have the date of his death based on his headstone which I assume is correct. Jerry W.
