Hi Steve; I am looking for my McClain family that moved to Hardin and Dyer counties from Lauderdale Co., AL, and families that married into them and were either from Hardin or Dyer Co., or moved there from Lauderdale Co., AL. They also left family in Lauderdale Co., AL. John Wilson McClain, born in 1849 in AL married Martha Elizabeth "Mattie Rayburn in 1880 in Lauderdale Co., AL. They moved to Hardin Co., TN between 1886 and 1888 where they stayed at least until 1900. John's younger brother, Charles Alexander McClain and wife, Amanda Elizabeth "Lizzie" Skinner, moved to Hardin Co., shortly after John and then moved on to Dyer Co., TN where they settled. John Wilson and Mattie Rayburn McClain's oldest son, Howell Andrew McClain, born in 1877 in AL came to TN with them. He went on to Dyer Co. also and married a Johnnie Everett there on Dec. 25, 1907. Howell Andrew McClain was my grandfather. He and Johnnie divorced around 1927 and Howell moved to AR where he met and married my grandmother, Ruby Leona Martin, in 1928 in AR. He was 32 years older than her. Their only son, my dad, was born in AR in 1928. These are some of the surnames that married into my McClain family or mine married into theirs; Everett Rayburn Skinner Carson Scott--Mattie Rayburn McClain married a "Scott" sometime between 1900 and 1910 after John Wilson died. She was listed as Mattie Scott in Mississippi Co., AR on the 1910 census. McDavid Little Mayfield Murphy Story Nunez Craig White I would like to find out about their children and spouses. I am trying to get a copy of Mattie Scott's DC. She is listed on the SSDI as having died on Apr 10, 1918 in Mississippi Co., AR. If anyone can tell me how to go about getting her DC, I would appreciate that too. I am trying to find out what "Scott" she married. I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Hello Charlotte: I do not seem to have any connections to the names you mentioned but I am interested in how the HOWELL Andrew McClain got the name Howell. MY wifes great grandfather was a Howell and some of the family was in the area at one time and also my wifes grandfather (David William Howell) lived in Hardin County, Tennessee, after the war. I think some of my wifes McKelvey family is at the Waites Cemetery. Any chance there was a connection ?
