Charlotte, I have family buried in Waites Cemetery. My mom's parents, grandparents, and 2 of her sisters. My grandmother's maiden name is Carson. I was also told that one of my grandfather's last name was Waites. Not sure. You know how info gets changed. If you would like to know more to see if your Carson is any way related to my Carson, just let me know. I have hit so many brick walls when it comes to my Carson/Waites/Smith family. Also this site http://www.rootsweb.com/~allauder/cem-wateshaw.htm does not even list my grandparents, ggrandparents or aunts as being buried there. Let me know if I can be of any help. They also left family in Lauderdale Co., AL. John Wilson McClain, born in 1849 in AL married Martha Elizabeth "Mattie Rayburn in 1880 in Lauderdale Co., AL. They moved to Hardin Co., TN between 1886 and 1888 where they stayed at least until 1900. John's younger brother, Charles Alexander McClain and wife, Amanda Elizabeth "Lizzie" Skinner, moved to Hardin Co., shortly after John and then moved on to Dyer Co., TN where they settled. John Wilson and Mattie Rayburn McClain's oldest son, Howell Andrew McClain, born in 1877 in AL came to TN with them. He went on to Dyer Co. also and married a Johnnie Everett there on Dec. 25, 1907. Howell Andrew McClain was my grandfather. He and Johnnie divorced around 1927 and Howell moved to AR where he met and married my grandmother, Ruby Leona Martin, in 1928 in AR. He was 32 years older than her. Their only son, my dad, was born in AR in 1928. These are some of the surnames that married into my McClain family or mine married into theirs; Everett Rayburn Skinner Carson Scott--Mattie Rayburn McClain married a "Scott" sometime between 1900 and 1910 after John Wilson died. She was listed as Mattie Scott in Mississippi Co., AR on the 1910 census. McDavid Little Mayfield Murphy Story Nunez Craig White I would like to find out about their children and spouses. I am trying to get a copy of Mattie Scott's DC. She is listed on the SSDI as having died on Apr 10, 1918 in Mississippi Co., AR. If anyone can tell me how to go about getting her DC, I would appreciate that too. I am trying to find out what "Scott" she married. I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Hi Connie; I am really glad to hear from you. Who are your Carson family? The Carson's married into my McClain family when they were all in Lauderdale Co., AL. Which I have found out is where Waits/Waites cemetery is actually at and not in Hardin Co., TN. Although the two counties are so close as to almost be one. It did get a little confusing but a lot of kind people helped me get it figured out. Are your Smith's related to Newton Smith and Laura Zilphia Carson? I would love to compare notes with you on the Waites and Carson's.. This is my home e-mail address ly68@charter.net Please put "Carson's" in the subject line so I know it is from you. Thanks. I will be anxiously waiting to hear from you.
