    3. Hi; In Goodspeed's History of Hardin Co., TN It says that in 1830,John White and Elisha Bryant, started a Ferry and business at Cerro Gordo. Cerro Gordo was called White's Landing until 1840 when it's name was changed. I believe that Cerro Gordo was/is close to Saltillo. Hope this helps. Char

    3. Charlotte, You are correct, but John White died in 1845 and was buried on top of the ridge at Cerro Gordo. At least for the past 100 years, there has not been a ferry at Cerro Gordo. On the other hand, there has been a ferry most of my life time at Saltillo until just a few years ago. Cerro Gordo and Saltillo were both named for battles in the war with Mexico and are about 5 miles apart.
