    3. For Civil War Records, indeed records of any wars the US was involved with, go to www.nara.gov, genealogy and provided the requested information. My results, when I requested info on my GGF, was that he deserted on a specific date. He did not answer to bed check. Another page listed him as captured by the enemy ON THAT SAME DATE.     3. Sorry about the last post.....I have a new computer and it is driving me nuts doing things I don't want it to do! New Windows Vista! aaaarrrrrgggghhhh. So much for that. As I was saying, I received something similar in a request for info on my GG grandfather William Swift of Scotts Hill. He shows up in the NARA records as deserting the Confederate Army, but in reality he was home visiting his wife and new baby son and was killed by bushwhackers, according to the 'History of Scotts Hill.'
