As you drive south from Walnut Grove, you cut across the corner of Wayne Co., TN and you are in Wayne Co., for about six miles before you get into Lauderdale Co., AL on hwy. 20. Walnut Grove is about 20 miles from downtown Savannah, if you drive north on hwy. 69. There is a school, several churches, a couple of cemeteries, cafe, Scotts' grocery, and a couple of other small businesses. That is where my father, and his COSSEY family was since about 1840. My maternal grandmother Mary Catharine Michael Cossey lived on second creek which was listed in both the 1920 Federal census as being in Lauderdale Co., AL and in Wayne Co., TN. The communities in AL close to Walnut Grove are Wright, Gravely Springs, Murphys' Crossroads, and the small town of Waterloo, which is on the TN River. The closest community to Walnut Grove in the south is the Graham community and in Wayne Co. is Lutts. North of Walnut Grove going back to Savannah is Cherrys' Chapel, and Hollands Creek. On the census has been listed Hubbardsville, Loweryville, and Gillis Mills, but there is no longer any businesses in these locations that I know of. The districts listed below could be wrong, but the Walnut Grove and Hollands Creek area are where the families were at in the Census. Maybe Hollands Creek is in the district next to Walnut Grove on the later Censuses, since district lines changes over the years. Walnut Grove; 1840 & 1850 Census, the 8th district. 1870 & 1880 Census, the 7th district. 1900 Census, the 5th district 1920 Census, the 9th district. These areas are where at least half of my research has been at, and I have over 73,000+ names in my database here at home. There are over 5,000+ names out of this database listed at my GenMaster site at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7578 and if your family lines are from there I would be glad to swap information.
