We have found that the 1850 Marion County, AR census for North Fork Township shows William AUSTIN 73 b VA Mahala 45 b KY This has to be William, son of Stephen and Dorcas, and his second wife. Other data shows he died in 1853 at Bond, IL. I don't know how to account for this but we know a daughter stayed behind as wife of Moses Rea (Rhea). Also we find in the 1860 census of Hampton Township in the home of William "Southfoot" and Malinda (Coker) Wood, Mahala Austin age 60, born TN. The age doesn't quite match but this is probably the same lady. At the moment I am stumped for a reason why this lady would be living with this particular Wood family. Any thoughts?
