James and Others, It is believed by some that Swane Ward was black and for sure was a member of Company "G" First Confederate Cavalry Regiment. As yet, I have not found him in an 1870 census. It is felt by this writer that Swane may have been a slave associated with the James Ward family of the Ward or Porters Community on Horse and Holland Creeks. The 1870 census of Hardin County TN shows as follows: 17 James Ward 71 NC 7th Ciivil District Alice 42 NC Cyntha 29 TN A. Swane 28 TN M. Francis 23 TN Isabella Ward 26 TN black William 6 TN black Henry 4 TN black Catherine 1/12 TN black Does anyone know anything about Swane Ward?
