The URL is: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/ Go there and then click "United States and Territories". This will give y= ou a form in which you can fill in whatever information you know, for example = the name of a town and its state. Then click "Send Query" and you'll get a li= st of matches. Clicking one of these will give more information, as well as = maps. The nice thing about this site is that it doesn't just index current popu= lated places -- it also has information about churches, cemeteries, etc., and a= bout places that are no longer recognized as towns (identified as "historical"= ). For example, I filled in "Feature Name: Holly Grove" and "State or Territ= ory: Alabama" and got a list of 15 things named Holly Grave, showing the count= y and some other information which I omit here: Holly Grove AL Walker Holly Grove Cemetery AL Baldwin Holly Grove Cemetery AL Chilton Holly Grove Cemetery AL Conecuh Holly Grove Cemetery AL Lamar Holly Grove Church AL Chilton Holly Grove Church AL Conecuh Holly Grove Church AL Marshall Holly Grove Methodist Church AL Conecuh Holly Grove Mine AL Walker Holly Grove Number 15 Mine AL Walker Holly Grove P. O. (historical) AL Fayette Holly Grove Post Office (historical) AL Walker Holly Grove School AL Lamar Holly Grove School (historical) AL Winston Clicking on any of these gives further information and maps. I was=0Apart= icularly interested in the Walker County items, since my grandfather was settled f= or a while in Holly Grove, Walker County. - Rufus --part0_903561484_boundary--
