    1. [TNHARDIN] Tony Hays look up
    2. Kathy Dell
    3. I need a look up please. I have tried to buy this book but cannot find it on line and from previous postings, it appears Tony Hays is not available on line. In /No Man's Land: The Civil War and Reconstruction in Hardin County/ (1986) by Tony Hays, I'd like to know if any Hughes or Blankenship name comes up. Does he deal with Hurst? or not since that is McNairy Co. technically. Coffee Landing? Any clues where I might find this book? Thanks. On a side note. The pre bridge river. Would we think that it is more of a dividing line than the county lines? The folks over on the west side were more inclined to use Adamsville economic resources than Savannah's? I know it was an issue when my parents wanted to marry, that is to say the people on each side of the river were none too happy about one of theirs marrying 'cross river. Kathy Dell

    3. Hi. Just catching up with posts. Oddly, I've had some blank posts show up in my inbox lately. And this message, sent earlier today was also blank. Try try again. I am interested in the Johnson line. I have some material given to me by Maxine Parker Lee some years ago. She is now deceased so I can't go back to her for clarification. This family is listed in the 1880 census with Ira C being the 1 yr old son of John C. and Elizabeth. They are in Dist 8 of Hardin Co. John C is 40 and Elizabeth is 34. So, my request is to for the group to look at this and tell me what needs to be added, removed or changed. 2. Ed, I am sending this to the Hardin list because I think there may be others who are interested in this also. I am sorry but I did not get the name of the book that this will was in. But I believe someone could find it without too much trouble with what I have given. (My note to my self was to put the complete name in when I got home!!! Evidently I did not do that-- anyone else ever do that??? Sorry!) I got it on a trip to Nashville to the archives. Will of Thomas Johnson: JOHNSON, Thomas, deceased. My son Larkin JOHNSON; the grave of my wife Barbary JOHNSON; my daughter Sally JOHNSON; my daughter Lucy EATON; a book of accompts I have given my children at different times; my son Sanford JOHNSON; my son James JOHNSON; two old Negroes JACK & SIRS, young Negro man JACK, Negro girl MARTHA; my granddaughter, daughter of Martha CARTER; Negro girl ELVIRA; Executors sons Sanford, James & Larkin JOHNSON. Signed Thomas JOHNSON, 27 Jul 1842. Witnesses: James MOORE, Saml GILL. Recorded 9 Mar 1844, E. TATE, Clerk. In a gift deed Thomas Johnson gives to his grandsons, children of his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Richard Moore, two slaves. This lists his grandsons, Mastin and Thomas Moore. This gift deed was dated 22 Aug. 1837 and filed 6 Feb. 1838. This was filed in Wayne Co., TN. but Thomas Johnson was in Grainger co., TN. This was my ancestor - Mastin Moore and his parents, which makes Thomas Johnson his Mastin's grandfather. 1840 census for Grainger Co., TN has Thomas with last name spelled Jonston living 4 houses away from MCNess Moore. He has Larkin Jonston living next to him. He is listed as between 70-80 and has a 15-20 year old female and 40-50 female, plus 8 slaves in the household. McNess (Mackness) Moore was the father of Richard Moore and the other grandfather of Mastin and Thomas Moore of Hardin Co / Wayne co., TN. I truly believe that not only did my Moore family come from Grainger to Hardin/Wayne co., but that their relatives --Rice, Stubblefield and Johnson families -came too. I have just started looking at this and will continue when I have time to see what I can find on it. If anyone can help with this, I would love to hear from you. 3. We are trying to trace Nancy Carver Hughes. born 1817 ky according to census in Smith TN. However we do not know her maiden name. She had two Carver children in the 1850 Census. Elizabeth and William Carver, She had two Hughes children Nancy S and Zarchary. We are also researching Nancy S Hughes. we know she married in 1861 to S E Holliman/Hollimon. We find her with 4 children in the 1880 census with her using the Staley name. However three of the children in later life used the last name of Hughes. This has been a brick wall for years.
