The family appears to have started with Alexander W. Swinea in 1820, and I find William C. Swinea in the 1910 census. Thanks, David

    3. A point of information ... If the soldier's WIDOW received a pension you can get a LOT more information (usually) by sending for the widow's pension records. I did this in 2004 ... for a cost of only $37 I received 40 or 50 pages of affidavits and letters back and forth. The widow's pension records INCLUDE the soldier's pension records. My gr-gr-grandfather's widow received $12 per month for all her efforts. (She was his second wife so not my gr-gr-grandmother, but that's more info. then you wanted to know.) -- Bob R. {bobr@foresight.net} -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Robyn Smith <msualumni33@verizon.net> > > The Union Pension Records Index and the Records themselves are stored at > the National Archives in Washington, DC. 3. The Union Pension Records Index and the Records themselves are stored at the National Archives in Washington, DC. If you have an Ancestry.com account they have the Pension Records Index and you can check for your ancestor and then mail off to the Archives if you find someone for a copy of the file. Or, as David mentioned, the Confederate Pensions are at each States level, so the TSLA is where you can find out whether a Confederate Soldier applied for a pension. Robyn
