    3. Hi Jennifer, I don't have a connection for YOUR John Lindsey, but here are the names of Ezekiel's children - according to his will: John W. Lindsey, William P. Lindsey, Elizabeth Lindsey, Polly Lindsey [she was probably Mary], Phebe Lindsey, Josiah G. Lindsey and Isaac L. Lindsey. All children were minors at the time their father died, late 1824 or 1825. Last Friday I was in Hardin County and did some lookups at the Library [a really nice one for genealogy research]. I had to hand copy the records I found for the Lindsey family and will send my transcriptions to you separately. I wondered if one of these older children might be a parent for your grandfather. I did some census searches for John W. and William P. Don't remember what I found except they were still in Hardin Co so it might be worth a look. My line is from another John Lindsey, the one who died in 1810 in Maury Co., TN and was a son of Abraham Lindsey of the Long Marsh group in Frederick Co, VA. A recent DNA done by a male Lindsey shows we're in Group 2. John was the father of Ezekiel and Isaac, who appear in Hardin County at the time of Ezekiel's death, he named Isaac as guardian of his minor children. Isaac moved on to Navarro Co., TX later. 3. Jennifer, I can't help you with a John and Margaret Lindsey in Hardin County, but I have a collateral line on Jeremiah Lindsey born 1807 in Anson County, North Carolina that died in Henderson County, Tennessee. Jeremiah had two sons: William Treat Lindsey born March 1837 in Henderson married Minerva Wooley Jeremiah Lindsey born 6 April 1831 in Henderson married Mary Lingo Jeremiah had three daughters: Martha married John Riley Sanders Elizabeth married Clement Jowers Carolina married John Appleby William Treat Lindsey had one son and two daughters that I'm aware of. The son Richard married Laura Pirtle and they had 10 children. All born around Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. The moved to Texas after 1917. If this is any help, I have a little more on this family. Henry Hanson College Station, TX.

    3. Hi Betty, I have not been able to trace my line past my g-g-g grandfather, John Lindsey. He was born around 1835 in Lauderdale County, AL...married Margaret Ingram in Hamburg in 1854 and farmed there until the Civil War. He died in 1869 in Memphis. He fought for the Union, and was a sgt in the 1st Alabama. He farmed on land owned by relatives after the war, but never recovered from the small pox he contracted in the line of duty, which is what ended up killing him. Margaret remained in Hardin County with her parents until she moved to Texas with her married daughter (Pickens family) in the 1880s. Their children were all born in Hardin County as far as I can tell...Georgia Ann, Mary Melvinia (Mollie), and William Charles (Charlie). I have just submitted my grandfather's DNA to Ron Lindsay for testing, so hopefully I can connect the dots on my line. What are the names of Ezekiel's children? Perhaps there is a connection with out lines. My information comes mostly from National Archives pension records. Margaret had to apply for her widow's pension numerous times, and the file is a wealth of information, as it contains affidavits from friends and family in Hardin County, attesting to the fact that John and Margaret were married, lived as husband and wife, that John remained loyal to the Union, and the facts surrounding his death. There are several hand-written and signed statements from different folks in Hardin County most written in the 1880s and 1890s. Pretty fascinating stuff! -----Original Message----- From: tnhardin-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnhardin-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Betty L. 3. Annette, The closest place I know of was Paulk's Mill, but it was discontinued in 1878. Not sure if it was the same place, but there was a post office at Paulks in 1887 through 1903. Center View would actually be closer To Cerro Gordo. Ross was probably a mail carrier. The only postmaster with that name that I see was Kenneth Ross at Boyd's Landing in 1869 through 1873. 3. David, I remembered something about my ggrandfather John Riley McMahan carrying the mail for someone and went back and checked his journal. On January the 21st 1888 he wrote that he carried the mail and then on the 24th he wrote- Carrying the mail for Mr. Ross. What post office was in the area around Centerview or Bucktown? I think you know where I am talking about. I'm not sure what the correct community name was at that time. Annette Stricklin Williams awilliams1@mindspring.com > [Original Message] > From: Bobby C. 3. Joe I surveyed that lake property in the 1970's for Warren Austin. That motel had already been torn down at that time. Warren's father was Ben Austin and both were already living in Savannah in the 70's and both have been dead for several years now. Their family originated on Horse and Holland Creek and I am sure they are descendants of the Stephen Austin you mentioned. Warren Austin had a sister that married a George Allison, however, I am not aware of a Nash Austin. Perhaps someone on this list can help? 3. That Walnut Grove and Boyd's Landing are both now under Pickwick Lake. I am familiar with the old Motel you are referring to. It belonged to Grady George. All of that land belonged to Warren Austin when I had something to do with it. I don't know who the owner is now. 1. Re: [TNHARDIN] post office
    2. Thanks David. However I`m wondering who that Daniel SHIPMAN could be. James SHIPMAN married to Martha P ROSS were the parents of John McCullough SHIPMAN. Could it be that James SHIPMAN`s full name was Daniel James SHIPMAN. Also where was Boyd`s Landing located? I understand that Walnut Grove was flooded out when they build the Dam and moved some place else. My Aunt who died about two years ago told me that the old SHIPMAN Homestead was located on Bruton Branch Road just across the road from what used to be an old Motel owned by a Mister Worley I think. . She said the Pond was still there but the old homestead had been torn down. Do you know who owns that land now a days? Also just below there is a Fisher Hollow. Do you know how it got its name? My Grandmother was a Fisher and she married one of John McCullough SHIPMAN`s sons named Homer SHIPMAN. Do you know of any land deed information for Daniel SHIPMAN or Elizabeth SHIPMAN. Daniel SHIPMAN the father of James SHIPMAN died about 1835 and his wife Elizabeth SHIPMAN was head of household on the 1840 Hardin Co TN Census. She did not appear on the 1850 Hardin Co TN Census.
