I would have to look at the Braswell website that my son has online. He researched it back to England. He even was DNA tested with some other Braswell's to trace the line back. http://www.braswellfamily.org/gbvol001.html Let me know what you think after visiting the website. He has been so busy with his job that he has not had time to keep up with the e-mails. -----Original Message----- From: tnhardin-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnhardin-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of James Watson Sent: Sunday, November 18, 2007 5:25 PM To: jbraz@TidyB.com; tnhardin@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNHARDIN] researching family of William Kiddy marriedEllaElizabeth Conway Your last name Braswell is familar in my area of East Tennessee based upon the Richard Braswell, Rev. Betty, I do not know if it is or not because I have just begun to research. I started a few years ago and did not follow through for whatever reason. I know alcohol was predominant in the kiddy family. I remember as a kid we all came down for a visit to mo and the women made the men go out in the field to sleep it off. I remember as a kid the loud racket the men made. My dad had a problem with whiskey when I was younger. He died with lung cancer. When you say online where is that located? I have some added Kiddy ancestors from Shirley and I have some to add to it. If you have any more to add, it would be appreciated. Do you have Kiddy ancestors? -----Original Message----- From: tnhardin-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnhardin-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Betty Downing Sent: Sunday, November 18, 2007 7:13 PM To: jbraz@TidyB.com; tnhardin@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNHARDIN] researching family of William Kiddy marriedEllaElizabeth Conway Don't know if this is any of yours, but there is a death certificate online for a John Kiddie of Jackson Co Mo. William must have been a common name because it seems my dad ,William Lee Kiddy had a dad named William born in 1870 in Hardin County. At one time the family must have left TN for Mississippi and he died there. Ella was left with a houseful of kids that I still don't know all the names of. I think my dad was the baby and adopted out when his dad died. I heard Ella was Indian decent but don't know if that was a rumor or not. My dad seems to have left TN, came to Mo, and married Salome Treece from the Portageville area. I know very little about the Kiddy side. Thank you Jana Kiddy Braswell
I am related to the Carsons and Scotts of Waterloo. Robert N Scott, b 1854 d 1909 married Mary Elizabeth Carson. They lived in Hardin Co and died there but were buried in the Carson Cemetery a few miles from Waterloo. This is a very small cemetery in the boonies. A brother of Mary, Henry J Carson and his wife Isabella Waites are also buried there. The Carson Cemetery and Waites are a few miles from each other on secondary roads. Waites overlooks the Tennessee River downstream (as the water flows) from Waterloo and Richardson Cemetery. Robert N Scott's father, John Scott b 1800 in NC d 1884 in Waterloo also married a Mary Elizabeth Carson b about 1810 d 1842. John's second marriage in 1844 was to Harriet Ferrell Thompson, widow of Sam Thompson. Robert N Scott was the last child born to John and Harriet. James N Carson b 1835 d 1921 is buried at Wesley Chapel just south of Savannah, TN. He and his wife, Ann, b 1837 d 1929 are the parents of the Mary Carson that my g gf, Robert N Scott married. There was a third Mary E Carson b 1836, d 1910 who is buried at Waites. Other Carsons in the Waterloo area were Andrew, Job P and John F. I think that 9 Carsons are buried at Wesley Chapel. Would appreciate any information on Carson connections. The first Mary b about 1810 was born in NC. I have not been able to find out what county in NC she and John Scott came from. Where did the Carsons go? Did they go to Arkansas as did many others or to Oklahoma or___? Help! Bill Scott ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
Hi Steve; Thanks for checking anyway. Good hunting. Charlotte ----- Original Message ----- From: stevecooper75@comcast.net To: tnhardin@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, November 14, 2007 11:14 AM Subject: Re: [TNHARDIN] Waites Cemetery in Hardin Co., TN Hello Charlotte: After today, I most likely will not be online for a while. I know of no connection to the Rayburns or McClain families. My wife's HOWELL line was in west Lauderdale County, Alabama and in Hardin County, Tennessee after the war. Her great grandfather David William Wilson Howell ( son of Phillip Howell and Mary Wesson) married Sarah Margaret Williams in LCA. After the war I find that she died and is buried near Savannah, Tn. He then marrried Sarah Columbia Palmer Graham, the widow of James Graham. D.W. Howell and Sarah Palmer are the great grandparents of my wife. Both, later moved back to Florence, LCA and are buried at the Florence City Cemetery. A brother of D.W. Howell, Benjamin E. Howell married Sarah Witherspoon of the Waterloo, Alabama James Witherspoon family. I find records of them in Hardin County but I don't think they are shown on the Hardin County, Tn census. Sarah was buried about 1876 at the Witherspoon Cemetery at Waterloo, Alabama and removed to the Richardson Cemetery nearby after TVA flooded some of the land about 1938. I have never found any information on where Benjamin E. Howell , her husband was buried, about 1877. Also, near Waterloo, Alabama was a sister Caroline ( Callie) Howell. She married Carroll Sharp. A brother Lee Howell worked as a young man in the store of Major Witherspoon and later was a riverboat captain before moving to Evansville, Indiana and working with the railroads there. Howell, Indiana, just west of Evansville is named for him. His biography is on the Lauderdale County Web Page. Thanks for any help. Hello Charlotte: After today, I most likely will not be online for a while. Hi Steve; It is possible there is a connection. I am not sure where the name Howell originally came into our family. My grandfather, Howell Andrew McClain, was named after his grandfather, Howell Jackson Rayburn. He went by Jackson Rayburn or H. J. Rayburn. I did notice in my research that there were quite a few people in Lauderdale Co., with the surname of Howell and wondered if maybe there was a connection. The Rayburns and McClain's went to AL from TN and I am pretty sure it was from Hardin Co., as that is the county they went back to in TN when they left Lauderdale Co., AL. And I noticed that some of the Howell's in Lauderdale Co., were born in TN also. I have a Walter Rayburn who married a Eva Howell. Her father was William Howell, born in 1867 in AL. Do you have any Rayburns in your line that might connect to the Howell's? Let me know. I will be waiting to hear from you. Hi Connie; I am really glad to hear from you. Who are your Carson family? The Carson's married into my McClain family when they were all in Lauderdale Co., AL. Which I have found out is where Waits/Waites cemetery is actually at and not in Hardin Co., TN. Although the two counties are so close as to almost be one. It did get a little confusing but a lot of kind people helped me get it figured out. Are your Smith's related to Newton Smith and Laura Zilphia Carson? I would love to compare notes with you on the Waites and Carson's.. This is my home e-mail address ly68@charter.net Please put "Carson's" in the subject line so I know it is from you. Thanks. I will be anxiously waiting to hear from you. They also left family in Lauderdale Co., AL. John Wilson McClain, born in 1849 in AL married Martha Elizabeth "Mattie Rayburn in 1880 in Lauderdale Co., AL. They moved to Hardin Co., TN between 1886 and 1888 where they stayed at least until 1900. John's younger brother, Charles Alexander McClain and wife, Amanda Elizabeth "Lizzie" Skinner, moved to Hardin Co., shortly after John and then moved on to Dyer Co., TN where they settled. John Wilson and Mattie Rayburn McClain's oldest son, Howell Andrew McClain, born in 1877 in AL came to TN with them. He went on to Dyer Co. also and married a Johnnie Everett there on Dec. 25, 1907. Howell Andrew McClain was my grandfather. He and Johnnie divorced around 1927 and Howell moved to AR where he met and married my grandmother, Ruby Leona Martin, in 1928 in AR. He was 32 years older than her. Their only son, my dad, was born in AR in 1928. These are some of the surnames that married into my McClain family or mine married into theirs; Everett Rayburn Skinner Carson Scott--Mattie Rayburn McClain married a "Scott" sometime between 1900 and 1910 after John Wilson died. She was listed as Mattie Scott in Mississippi Co., AR on the 1910 census. McDavid Little Mayfield Murphy Story Nunez Craig White I would like to find out about their children and spouses. I am trying to get a copy of Mattie Scott's DC. She is listed on the SSDI as having died on Apr 10, 1918 in Mississippi Co., AR. If anyone can tell me how to go about getting her DC, I would appreciate that too. I am trying to find out what "Scott" she married. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
