I am researching all McCanless/McCandless families in TN and the families and ancestors of A.B. Hardin and B.F. Hardin who were from Maury Co. and escaped the law after murdering a man in 1825. Some of their relatives were arrested but they were the actual killers and they went to Texas and became quite rich as a judge (A.B.) and sheriff (B.F.) I am looking for Joseph Hopper b. 1800-1802 in NC. I know in 1850 he lived in the Sardis, Henderson co. TN area with his first wife until her death around 1844. He then married a widow named Sarah Blanton. The growing family moved to Five Forks, Hardin county, Tenn.and Joseph died sometime after 1870, I don.t know where in NC he was born but I do know he was Scottish and Irish. His children were .. Searching for any information on Francis Marion LEDBETTER who was born ca l829 Tennessee and is listed on the l850 Hardin Co,Tenn census with the James WILLIAMS family. I do not know the connection of the Ledbetters to this family (if any). It is believed that Francis Marion Ledbetter is the son of Henry Clay Ledbetter who is on the l850-l880 McNairy Co,Tennessee census. Francis Marion Ledbetter married ca l869 Tenn/Miss to Eliza Ann (Smith) Roundtree. This family is then on l870 Lauderdale Co,Ala census. She was m/l to Samuel F. Roundtree. The children went to live with uncle Henry Harrison Ledbetter after both parents died.
