I am looking for someone that may have information or may be in possession of any photos of my great great grandfather, John IRVIN and his wife Roena (COVEY) IRVIN of Hardin County, or his descendants. John was born abt. 1825 somewhere in AL, according to census records. He and Roena lived near Turkey Creek and had several children. The ones I know of are listed below. William B IRVIN b. Abt 1851 Alfred K IRVIN b. 16 Aug 1853 ( My great grandfather) Margaret E IRVIN b. Abt 1858 John S IRVIN b. Abt Jan 1860 I have been told that Roena's full name was: Margaret Hannah Roena Roberta McJemps COVEY. Does this ring any bells with anyone? I have also received verbal information that John IRVIN was a postmaster for a time in Hardin County, but I don't know exactly where to turn to confirm this. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any information will be welcome. James Benny Cooper benracer@ebicom.net
I would be very interested in getting your civil war veteran's pension abstract, or a copy of the whole thing, for any veteran from Hardin County to post to our WebSite. I would also like any wartime letters and correspondence from same you might have. I would also like to have rosters of units made up partly or entirely of men from Hardin County for the site. Several more surnames were posted today to the Cemetery Census. This is a job! Bill (chief putter-upper) Hardin County, TN, Historical Society Pages: http://www.hardincountytn.com/history
Thanks to everyone who is putting this list together. I am researching the following Hardin County families: KENDALL/KINDLE/KENDEL/KINDEL (same family) LOWRY (I need help with this one), MCADAMS, STEPHENS, SWEENEY I've never been to Hardin County myself, it's quite far from Seattle where I live, but I've been nearby many times as my father is from Oxford Mississippi. I'm especially looking for the LOWRY family of Lowryville, Tennessee and would like to correspond with someone who has done some research. All I have is my gggrandmother, Viannah McAdams LOWRY, who married Alfred Hunter Kendall. Alfred Hunter Kendall b. April 17, 1817 in Greene Co. Tennessee - came to Savannah Tennesesee c 1820 Married 1842 at Savannah To Viannah McAdams Lowry b. May 26, 1826 in South Carolina. They lived at Lowryville and had 12 children/nine who survived to adulthood. Viannah died about April 1879 and is purportedly buried in Lowryville. Children: Samuel John , Alfred Hayes, Thomas Lowry, Julia Ann, Lewis Clinton, Mary E.B., James Lawrence, Minerva V., Minerva V., William Clark, Francis Asbury, Ernest Linwood Kendall Viannah's parents were Samuel (John?) Lowry and Delilah McAdams. She had a brother Isaac T. Lowry, and sisters Lucinda, Sarah Ann, and Minerva. Also interested in anybody who knows anything about this KENDALL family. I do have a copy of the HCHS article on them - starting with John Kindle/Elizabeth Broyles. Also looking for AW SWEENEY, Richard STEPHENS and their families. Each are found in the 1830 Hardin County Census. By 1850 they are elsewhere, but I am interested in any connections. Thanks for your reply! Barb Anderson, Seattle WA
I am researching my STARR family. William & Lydia STARR were in Hardin Co TN in 1845 when William died. Lydia and children came to Harrison Co Tx by the 1850 census and lived next to a Richard & Sarah STARR. Some names associated with them are JONES, BLANKENSHIP, PETTY, HENDERSON, SMITH, ONEY, CURTIS, JACKSON, NEWMAN, BOAZ, BOZE, MORRIS. Previously the STARRS had been in the Henderson Co TN area. I am told Milledgeville could be the area they were located. Also a Middleton Creek area. I am descended from William & Lydia's son Joel/Joseph A STARR(1834-1891) and his marriage to first wife Mary JACKSON in 1856 Harrison Co Tx. Thank you for any information you can provide. Thanks to all the volunteers who do great work putting the cemetery lists online etc. Sincerely, Mary Chapman
Hi Celese: I'm not a Hardin County TN native either, but my grandmother and her maternal grandparents were. I've been to Hardin County and surrounding area many times over the past years, 1st trip being back in about 1946 when I was 15. I don't have any of the CARROLL family in my ALLISON, KERR, NEILL, GRIFFIN, BAKER, EVANS family lines. But it is good to see this Hardin County site at rootsweb growing in numbers of participants. I'll be posting more of my families in the near future. Do you belong to the Hardin County Historical Society? They put out a good periodical and lots of interesting stuff about Hardin County and its people. Membership dues are $20 annually, and the "Hardin County Historian" is well worth that. Write to The Hardin Co. Historical Society, P.O. Box 1012, Savannah, TN 38372. As a member you can also have family querries in the "Historian." Gotta remember, there's still lots of people that ain't on the Internet or don't own a computer (yet). Celese, Best Wishes, and Hope we both more family ties from Hardin Co. TN. Pardon the intrusion--------- We have just installed the 1980 Hardin County Cemetery census with surnames from ABELL to EZEKIEL today. The rest will go up as time permits. Return often; we hope to have it all done by the end of the week. There is also a couple of articles on colorful Hardin Countians from the past, "Clay Allison, Gunfighter," and "Elizabeth Patterson, Actress." Look for Bert Hayes, General Sevier, Capt. Irwin, and others soon. Your comments will be welcomed. Bill Hardin County, TN, Historical Society Pages: http://www.hardincountytn.com/history

Hello Everyone, Great to be aboard the Hardin Co. TN site. This is gonna be a great place for genealogy and the gathering of family information. Good to see David Cagle is a contributor...... Hi David.... :-) I'm passing the word on to my other Hardin County Cuz'ns about this place, so let's get some family stuff posted. 1830 Census, Hardin Co. TN Jacob Davidson 2110001-1020001 William Davidson 11001-11001 1840 Census, Hardin Co., TN Jacob Davidson 10211001-10102 1850 Census, Hardin Co., TN 1st Civil District Jacob Davidson 63 NC Eliza C. 33 TN Does anyone have any info re the above listed Jacob Davidson and his family? I would appreciate anything anyone could offer. I suspect that the William Davidson listed in the 1830 Hardin Co census is the same as William Davidson who was in Wayne Co by 1840. I am a descendant of William Davidson (b. ? (about 179?); d. 1849, Wayne Co, TN) and his first (or "earlier") wife whose name is unknown. William Davidson's earlier wife d. about 1840, and William then m. Dicena McMahon Blackshear (1798, NC - 1886, TN), widow of Elijah Blackshear, in Wayne Co TN. The Blackshear's came to Williamson Co, TN from Jones Co, NC; then to Wayne Co in the 1820's. The family names, Marrs, McMahon, and Blackshear are closely intertwined with this Davidson family in Wayne Co. William Davidson had children named Hannah F., b abt 1828 in SC or TN (m. ? Thomas); James b in KY or TN (m. Nancy S. ?); Robert (m. ?); Alfred, b 15 May 1839, (m. Dicena McMahon), (my ancestor); Louisa Jane, b 1844; maybe others. I believe that these Davidson's came from North Carolina (or possibly KY) in the early 1800's to TN, and then moved on to Hardin, Wayne, and ? Counties. Bill Allen allen@nconnect.net West Bend, WI
