    3. Dear Deanna: In response to your request for info in searching for all Confederate Veterans connected to Wayne Co TN , here is all I have on the KIDDY men, Brenda Barfield: Source: 1890 TN Veteran's Census: 1. Paul W. (they called him Bud) KIDDY, Hardin Co TN pg 52-1, PVT, Co B, 2nd TN Cavalry, enlisted Oct 10, 1863, Adamsville Post Office. I have seen this unit referred to as 2nd TN mounted Infantry, USV, in the 1997 Vol 10, p126 of the Wayne Co Newsletter. (son of Jasper/Jacob KIDDY and Sarah who were from Rockbridge Co VA (1800), living in Wayne Co 1860--Paul was brother to my ancestor James KIDDY and Elizabeth who lived in Wayne Co TN in 1860. I am in contact with Paul's descendant Rick KIDDY and his sister Marsha (Kiddy) Owens.) 2. James H. KIDDY, Wayne Co-178-1, PVT, H Co, 6th TN Cavalry, April 5, 1863-July 26, 1865, Light Post Office. (J.H. Kiddy m. Martha Allen Nov 4, 1866 Wayne Co TN. In Wayne Co 1880 census with wife Martha J. and son Charles born 1872 TN. 3. Thomas KIDDY, Hardin Co-52-2, PVT E Co, 7th TN Infantry, 1863-1865, Hurley Post Office. (note: believe he is Thomas H. Kiddy, who at age 19, was living with his parents, James and Elizabeth KIDDY in Wayne Co TN census, pg 276. - ---------------------------- Source: TN Confederate Questionnaires, Volume 5, page 1826: L.A. KIDDY, Co B, 9th TN Cavalry. (not sure how he is kin, but believe he is one and the same as a land record which i have for Lauderdale Co AL. Am sure he is kin to Jasper/Jacob Kiddy some way. Can anyone help?

    2. BARFIELDB
    3. Would like to share with anyone who is interested in the KIDDYGRUBBS families. Just got lots of Grubbs info from Chancery Ct records. I just discovered that my 3 gr grandmother Elizabeth KIDDY, widow of James KIDDY, was living in Hardin Co TN in 1870s. My ancestor is Carmack Kiddy who died abt 1862, widow Rebecca Emaline Kiddy m. David GRUBBS in Giles Co TN 1869. Have many notes and connections on GRUBBS families in Giles Co, willl anyone share? trying to discover more about David Grubbs. Did he & Rebecca have children? Were they on the census in 1870 TN? The Kiddy families were in Wayne Co and Giles Co TN and Lauderdale Co AL. Please help me to piece this family together. Am in contact with several family researchers of Kiddy's and we share. There were three Kiddys on the 1890 Confederate Veteran's census if anyone is interested, all kin to this family, but not sure how. Brenda Barfield

    1. [TNHARDIN-L] New Hardware at RootsWeb!
    2. Jerry W. Murphy
    3. Last week RootsWeb bought a Cisco 4500M router, which will let us use up to 8 T1s at our main network operations center. This gives us room to grow and, perhaps more importantly, will enable is to get even more clever about working around problems out in The Net's core mesh. [ I'm not going to do the canonical beg and grovel for folks to consider becoming RootsWeb Members, but I will note in passing that buying the new router did put quite a dent in our budget ... ] Anyway, late Wednesday night we'll be installing the 4500 router. We'll also be replacing our old ethernet hubs with a hairy Bay Networks ethernet switch, which will enable us to bring more servers online and work around problems more rapidly. There will probably be a number of very brief interruptions as we cut over to the new router and switch, and there is the possibility of as much as a 2-3 hour down if we have any interesting problems. ### As many of you know, we tried to bring up a new search engine server two weeks ago but discovered it was prone to crashing when we placed a full production load on it. In the last two weeks we've built another server and made various adjustments on the unstable beast. Over the next few days we will be doing production tests on both the new boxes. During the tests, you may see the 1998 archives be available at some times and not available at others. Crashes may occur. In any case, please don't announce the new archives even if they are available online for several days. When we're sure that we have a new search engine server running well, we'll announce that fact to this audience and you can, in turn, announce it to your subscribers and users. ### Wish us luck with the upgrades, and please be patient as we get everything installed and tuned. 3. New on the web site-- Veterans questionnaires from these soldiers: David M. Reed Redden Washington Reynolds John Morgin Smith Andrew Burris White Makes for very interesting reading, giving a glimpse of mid and late 1800 life. Also, Haynes researchers: Haynes related clippings from the Savannah Courier, ca1920-30. Remember, the Hardin County Historical Society meeting is at Shiloh Church, with a presentation on the history of Shiloh Church. If you are in the area at that time, you will be welcome! That is Thursday night, I think at 6:30PM. Email if you need info. Speaking of histories, we would be happy to put up a church history for any Hardin County Church. Those would make very good genealogical tidbits for researchers. The site is proving very popular, with over 4800 hits since the 14th of March. 1. [TNHARDIN-L] Alexanders in Hardin Co., TN
    2. David Cagle
    3. Cherrie, William M. Alexander was the son of Josiah Alexander and the grandson of Ezekiel Alexander who came to this area from Mecklenburg Co., NC before 1830. Ezekiel owned the tract of land where Harmony Church and Cemetery are located. Alexander descendants still own much of Ezekiel's original tract. William's wife Ellen was the daughter of Stephen and Jane Gilbert. The 1860 census shows this family as follows: 1609 Stephen Gilbert 47 NC 14th C. D. *Marian 46 KY Mary 19 NC Elizabeth 18 NC Edna 17 NC Ellen 15 NC Cresa 13 MS John 11 TN Joseph 8 TN Susannah 6 TN Samantha 3 TN Margaret Sanders 18 AL William Sanders 15 AL * The 1850 census shows the wife of Stephen Gilbert to be Jane, b. 1812 in NC. It is likely that Stephen remarried before 1860 and the children shown at the bottom in the 1860 list are probably children belonging to Mariah by a prior marriage? (see next paragraph) The 1850 census also shows Maria Sanders, 35 KY living in the household of Jesse Mitchell 58:NC, and wife, Mary 58 NC. Maria has several children: Mary 14 AL Margaret 8 AL (the name is not Margaret, but I can't figure it out, help) William 5 AL Charlotte 2 TN David *************************************************************************** >names: Alexander >email: northcut@apex.net >Date: 4/25/98 >Time: 11:29:08 AM > >query: > >I would appreciate any information on the family of WILLIAM CHESLEY ALEXANDER born 1869 married to LAURA IDA OWEN. 2. Cora Ann Brown
    3. Seeking info on Francis Marion LEDBETTER born ca l829 Tennessee and listed on the l850 Hardin Co,Tenn census as being enumerated with James WILLIAMS l7-432. Does anyone know whether these 2 families are connected? Eliza Ann Smith born ca l830 (census says Alabama?) married Samuel F. ROUNTREE on 7 Nov l849 Lauderdale Co., Alabama. They had 3 children: Doffie, Charlotee, and Samuel. It appears that they lived in Kentucky for a short time in early l850's. About l869 she married Francis Marion LEDBETTER (above) somewheres around Hardin,McNairy or Lauderdale Co.--does anyone know where? They are listed on the l870 Lauderdale Co.,Alabama Census-Township 3, Rl2W and l880 Lauderdale Co.,Alabama Census. They had 2 children: Eliza Evaline (l3 Feb l870 Florence, Lauderdale Co,Alabama William Marion (2 Nov l872 Lauderdale Co.,Alabama I descend from Eliza Evaline who married Granville Lafayette VINSON (s/o William Meridith VINSON and Caroline WRIGHT) of Tishomingo Co,Mississippi. Anyone working on the LEDBETTER, ROUNTREE, or SMITH families or this area in this time frame, I would like to hear from you. It is believed that Francis Marion Ledbetter is the s/o Henry Clay Ledbetter who lived in McNairy Co,Tenn as Eliza and Marion (above) went to live with an Uncle Henry Harrison Ledbetter when their parents died in early l880's.
