Looking for the parents and maiden name of Cassandra Pool. I have been told that John Thomas Pool's mother was Cassandra ?. She died giving birth to John Thomas on January 14, 1862. Almost certain this happened in Hardin County. John's father was Francis Marion Pool who was shot and killed when John was 5 years old. Francis Marions mother was Susan Haggard Pool. She raised John Thomas. I have been told that her name was Elizabeth. Does anyone know if Susan Haggard Pool was Susan Elizabeth or if I just got bad information. I'm looking for information on Etheldred Howell. He is on the 1840 census but can not locate him after the 1840 census. His wife's name was Nancy Emily Scot. She was born in 1819 and believe Etheldred was near her age. Nancy is on the 1860 census in Henderson Co., TN with four children. Hides phone bill from spouse. Mumbles to self. Has strange faraway look in eyes. NO KNOWN CURE: Medication is useless Disease is not fatal but gets progressively worse. Patient should attend genealogy work-shops, subscribe to genealogy magazines and be given a quiet corner in the house where they can be alone. REMARKS: The usual nature of this disease is "The Sicker the patient gets, the more they enjoy it".
Brenda, There were two Confederates with the name F. M. or Francis M. Pool. One was a pvt. in Co. H, 37 Inf. from Hamilton Co., TN or North GA. Probably not your relative. The other is a better candidate. He was F. M. Pool, Pvt., Co. B, 51 Consolidated Inf. which was formed at Henderson Station, Madison Co., TN, now Henderson TN in Chester Co. I had two great uncles, Oscar Edwin Whitlow and George Wilson Blackwelder from Cerro Gordo in Hardin Co. TN who joined the same outfit in Dec. 1861. Both were dead by March and April of 1862. There was only one Yankee from TN named Francis M. Pool. He was a Pvt. in Co. H of the 6th Cavalry. The 6th was headed by Col. Fielding Hurst, and Co. H by Capt. Risden D. DeFord. Some of the men of Co. H were from Hardin Co. It has been rumored that Fielding Hurst was very cruel to some of the Rebels in and around Hardin, McNairy and Wayne Co's. Brenda, I just happen to be at NARA today and looked up your Francis Marion Pool. Yes he appears both in Union & Confederate indexes. In the Union army he was a Pvt in Co H, 6th Tenn. Cavalry. In the Confederate army he was a Pvt in Co H, 37th Tenn Inf. In parenthesis it also shows 7th Tenn Reg't Prov'l Army and 1st E. Tenn Rifle Reg. There was a F. M. Pool shown in the 1860 census of Obion Co., TN. He and his wife Sarah were both 23 years old. No children. Was that him? I am told that he served in the Union Army, but after being refused to leave when his wife died, went over to the confederate side. Any information would be appreciated. I am also trying to find the name of Marion's wife who died giving birth to their son John Thomas Pool, my great-grandfather.
