    1. [TNHARDIN-L] Marshall J. GARNER
    2. edclark
    3. Hi, I'm trying to get links to my GARNER line who settled in Gibson Co. TN in the late 1800s. Part of their family migrated to TX. My gr-grandfather, William Morris GARNER (1855-1906), was born in TN (as was both his parents according to census data) actually moved to TX, had one child born there, but moved back to Gibson Co. TN. According to one of my older uncles, things didn't work out for him in TX. We assumed he had family there (aunts, uncles, possibly his father, etc.). We are trying to find William Morris GARNER's parents. We believe his grandparents are William GARNER (ca1802-1874) and Elizabeth from Hardin Co. TN (in 1850 & 1860 census). In 1870, the grandfather William GARNER shows up in Gibson Co. TN with a new wife, Charity H. GARNER (nee unknown) and lived near a town called "Kenton Station" (its called Kenton today). We are fairly certain that this William GARNER (1802) was the grandfather of our William Morris GARNER because of a Will made in Gibson Co. mentioning William Morris GARNER. We also know that William Morris had at least one sister, Lucinda. The most likely candidate for William Morris GARNER's father is Marshall J. GARNER. He was 17 living with his parents in Hardin Co. TN in the 1850 census. He was not listed with his parents on the 1860 census and we've been unable to ever find him again. Did Marshall J. move to TX before the 1860 census? If he was the father of William Morris GARNER, born in TN in 1855, he moved between 1855-1860. It also meant that Marshall J. GARNER was only 22 when William Morris GARNER was born. If what we assume is true, then Marshall J. GARNER would have married in TN, probably Hardin Co. around 1853-54. Can anyone throw any light on these GARNERS especially our elusive Marshall J. GARNER? Thanks and take care, Eddy G. Clark Gibson County TNGenWeb Coordinator

The URL is: http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/ Go there and then click "United States and Territories". This will give y= ou a form in which you can fill in whatever information you know, for example = the name of a town and its state. Then click "Send Query" and you'll get a li= st of matches. Clicking one of these will give more information, as well as = maps. The nice thing about this site is that it doesn't just index current popu= lated places -- it also has information about churches, cemeteries, etc., and a= bout places that are no longer recognized as towns (identified as "historical"= ). For example, I filled in "Feature Name: Holly Grove" and "State or Territ= ory: Alabama" and got a list of 15 things named Holly Grave, showing the count= y and some other information which I omit here: Holly Grove AL Walker Holly Grove Cemetery AL Baldwin Holly Grove Cemetery AL Chilton Holly Grove Cemetery AL Conecuh Holly Grove Cemetery AL Lamar Holly Grove Church AL Chilton Holly Grove Church AL Conecuh Holly Grove Church AL Marshall Holly Grove Methodist Church AL Conecuh Holly Grove Mine AL Walker Holly Grove Number 15 Mine AL Walker Holly Grove P. O. (historical) AL Fayette Holly Grove Post Office (historical) AL Walker Holly Grove School AL Lamar Holly Grove School (historical) AL Winston Clicking on any of these gives further information and maps. I was=0Apart= icularly interested in the Walker County items, since my grandfather was settled f= or a while in Holly Grove, Walker County. - Rufus --part0_903561484_boundary--

I know that James Erwin went to school there because I have one of his school books "The History of Hardin County" It's dated 1840. I can't find any information on my great grandmothers side of the family. I have an abundance of pictures for a family named Sanderson but have no one who can tell me how we are connected to them. One of the photographs has a picture of a baby and the name Sanderson. It is addressed to Nancy Baker. Under that it says grandmother but it isn't the same handwriting. As far as I know this was her only marriage. Does anyone have anything that could help me out? I would appreciate any help.
