    1. [TNHARDIN-L] Walnut Grove
    2. Mac Lambert
    3. Walnut Grove is now between Savannah Tenn. and Florence Ala., 15 miles south of Savannah on highway 69, but until 1938 it was on neither Hollands Creek or Dry Creek. It was next to Ala. state line on the Tennessee River, near Waites Cemetery, the postoffice was there, the school was past Paulk Landing toward Bruton. It was moved in 1938 when Pickwick Lake backwaters covered all the farm land. The school building itself was moved and became Walnut Grove school and Church combined, when the new school was built, it was moved again and is now the Walnut Grove Church of Christ. Any census records before 1940 are of the Walnut Grove on the river, most of present day Walnut Grove would have had a Lowryville address. Mac Lambert

As you drive south from Walnut Grove, you cut across the corner of Wayne Co., TN and you are in Wayne Co., for about six miles before you get into Lauderdale Co., AL on hwy. 20. Walnut Grove is about 20 miles from downtown Savannah, if you drive north on hwy. 69. There is a school, several churches, a couple of cemeteries, cafe, Scotts' grocery, and a couple of other small businesses. That is where my father, and his COSSEY family was since about 1840. My maternal grandmother Mary Catharine Michael Cossey lived on second creek which was listed in both the 1920 Federal census as being in Lauderdale Co., AL and in Wayne Co., TN. The communities in AL close to Walnut Grove are Wright, Gravely Springs, Murphys' Crossroads, and the small town of Waterloo, which is on the TN River. The closest community to Walnut Grove in the south is the Graham community and in Wayne Co. is Lutts. North of Walnut Grove going back to Savannah is Cherrys' Chapel, and Hollands Creek. On the census has been listed Hubbardsville, Loweryville, and Gillis Mills, but there is no longer any businesses in these locations that I know of. The districts listed below could be wrong, but the Walnut Grove and Hollands Creek area are where the families were at in the Census. Maybe Hollands Creek is in the district next to Walnut Grove on the later Censuses, since district lines changes over the years. Walnut Grove; 1840 & 1850 Census, the 8th district. 1870 & 1880 Census, the 7th district. 1900 Census, the 5th district 1920 Census, the 9th district. These areas are where at least half of my research has been at, and I have over 73,000+ names in my database here at home. There are over 5,000+ names out of this database listed at my GenMaster site at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7578 and if your family lines are from there I would be glad to swap information. 3. Greetings everyone! Friday we had a small shower; today we have RAIN! Ain't it wonderful? This afternoon I've updated the queries and the queries surnames index with all received as of today noon. I've also begun posting the Wayne County, Tennessee World War I Veterans' Biographies. So far I have the A and B biographies up with a surname index. Will work on this project more in the coming weeks and will hopefully have the complete set up by Veterans' Day. url is http://www.netease.net/wayne/ww1/biomain.htm And that is the numeral 1 in ww1. Please take a minute to check the page and let me know how it looks in different browsers. The quality of the photographs isn't great, but, hey, I am working with xerox copies of the photographs and not originals or photographic copies. To those who are patiently waiting for the remaining letters of the Ancestor Researcher Database, please be patient for a little longer. I will try to have the rest of the database posted soon. A note for the coordinators list: Wayne County passed 6,000 visitors sometime this past week. And statisticaly we now have 2.88MB of raw data posted (this doesn't include photographs and graphics). Come and visit as often as you like. The address for the main page is http://www.netease.net/wayne Happy hunting Edgar Edgar D.
