Hi, I'm new to the list and have one surname. WISDOM Would love to hear from anyone connected with the Wisdoms of Hardin Co. Sharon
I just figured out what this means. Mine are RICHARDS, STINSON.
I missed the roll call. The families I am researching are BAKER, MCCORMACK. I have hit a dead end on both these families so if ANYONE can HELP me I would sure appreciate it. Thanks for the time Angel
I am researching PLUNK, WILLIAMS, STINNETT, JACKSON mainly. Have a great day!! Barbara
I must have used my "fat fingers" and hit the delete key.... missed the notice of a Roll Call.... but here is a starter.... ALLISON, KERR, NEILL, GRIFFIN, BAKER, EVANS-EVENS. If you aren't a subscriber-member of the Hardin County Historical Society, why aren't you? I am, and I enjoy getting "The HCHS Historian"..... Tom Evans 8435 16th Ave. S. I am looking for information on the Pack family in Hardin County. I have some information already and am willing to share. Pamela Hargis
I am responding to the Roll Call and the querie I put out on Oct. 3 about my grandmother, Texana Futrell. I know she came from Lauderdale, Ala. I believe I had put Lauderdale, TN. Sorry. I had TN on my mind at the time. Since the Hitchcock's and Futrell's moved around in the two states. Thanks to Jake he put me straight. Trecia
For Trecia Griffin and any others on this line; My line of research is the COSSEY family surname. I would appreciate any more information on any of these lines listed below. Also Trecia, Lauderdale is in AL not TN as you had listed in your last query to the list. She married my grandfather, James M. Hitchcock. I do know that my grandfather's father(Jefferson Hitchcock) was born(1 Jan 1835)in Hardin Co. and assume that my grandfather was born there also. His birth date is 15 Jan 1857. I do not know where my grandmother came from or any info about her. I would sure appreciate any info I could get about her or anyone related to her. I also know they ended up in Shilo, Okla and are buried there. Thank You. _______________ Subject: Roll Call Date: Sat, 3 Oct 1998 09:56:33 EDT From: TGrif93021@aol.com To: ALLAUDER-L@rootsweb.com I am researching the FUTRELL'S, HITCHCOCK'S. My grandmother, Texana Futrell, married my grandfather James M. Hitchcock. I only know my grandmother came from Lauderdale Cty.,TN. There is a John W. Futrell and family from Lauderdale Cty., TN. and I strongly believe he might be a brother to my great grandfather Andrew Jackson Futrell which is from Lauderdale, but still do not know for sure. I want to establish Andrew Jackson's mother and father and siblings. I know some of the Futrell's married into the Handley family. And I have that info. And I have some info that some Futrell's lived in the McCan household. I have a Edward Feutral with wife and kids 1860 Census. But can't seem to establish any more than that. My Andrew Jackson was married 3 times it is believed. The last marriage being in Hardin Cty.,TN. My grandmother Texana was of the second marriage we believe. I do not know the wife's of the 1st or 2nd marriages. Any info anyone might have more on the Futrell's I would certainly appreciate. Tom, John W. Griffin lived in the 1st C. D. of Hardin Co. TN in 1860 and is enumerated as follows: John W. Griffin 30 NC Mary 28 TN Nancy 9 TN Sarah 7 TN John 5 TN Mary 3 TN Julia 1 TN I note that Mary has been given a different birth date in 1860. The 28 probably should have been a 23? That would make her 13 when she got married. This family is not in the 1880 census of Hardin Co. Hello, I'm new to the Hardin Co. mailing list and am enjoying the postings so far. I am researching my family and can get back to Roland Harrison Burks (b. 1/10/1813 in KY; d. 8/2/1852 in Hardin Co., KY) and his wife Mary T. Pratt (b. 1/18/1811; d. in TX)who lived in Hardin Co. They had 13 children, the youngest of whom is my ancestor, Green Clinton Burks (b. 12/8/1851 in Hardin Co., KY). Some years after Roland died, some of the family moved to Texas, including Green, his mother Mary, and his brother ALWHH. Green married Mattie Narcissus DARNALL. Also a Hardin Co. family, I think. I have a photograph of a lot of the Burks and Darnall family members. Is anyone else researching this line? I know a couple of people researching this line but would like to make additional connections. I do not know in which KY County Roland was born or where he lived previous to Hardin Co. I think the town in Hardin Co. may have been Red Sulphur Springs. I'm planning a research trip to Hardin Co. in November and would appreciate any suggestions as to where to start, books to look at in the library, the best way to approach records in the county clerk's office, etc. Thank you in advance! Sarah Burks
James, There is an excellent work by James H. Hannah, "Genealogical Research Maps of Hardin County Tennessee," that shows the Hardin County Civil Districts from 1836 through 1910. The pamphlet was published by: Brewington Genealogical Services Rt. 1, Box 220 Enville, TN 38332 You might write to Ronney Brewing at the above address to obtain a copy of the book. I am sending Ronney a copy of this message. You can find me at Cerro Gordo. I would appreciate information concerning the districts for the censuses from 1830 to 1920 as they were outlined in Hardin County. I am especially interested in the northwestern part of the county including Saltillo, Hookers Bend, Sulphur Well, Lebanon, Hinkle, and Hurricane. Surnames that I am researching include BINGHAM, CLAYTON, REDDIN, ANDERSON, ROSS, SCOTT, GOFF, MORRIS, EASON, and DUCK among others. I was born and raised in Saltillo. THANKS
Paula at LOUGROVE@aol.com wrote and asked me to do a lookup for Richard in the Hardin Co., TN 1860 Census, and I was unable to help her. There have been two others since then who have contacted me on RICHARDS info, one person having information in AR. Please note that it was Paula and not me (Debbie) who was requesting the info. Also, I have had a couple of other requests for look-ups sent to my home e-mail. Please request help for information from all Hardin list reciepents, as someone else may be working with the surname you would like help with. And please don't be disappointed if they are like me and only have limited information. I am an amature genealogist (for 28 years) because I mainly work on my family lines and those related, and not an area in general. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or the material to do lookups on requests, unless you DO find names in my family line that ties in with yours. If I ever see anything such as a name in the Hardin mailing list that rings a bell, I do try to check it out, but I recieve over 50 e-mails a day from mailing list, and I scan them all. I would like to thank the listowners for Hardin and Wayne Co., TN and Lauderdale Co., AL for their support, and the lists. I do look forwarding to reading them daily. George Gill, 55, Ky, with a large family, was enumerated in the 1850 census, Hardin Co., TN. Does anyone have any information on this family? Thanks, David
LOUGROVE@aol.com wrote: > Debbie, if you have the time, would you check to see if there are any RICHARDS > in that census? Samuel Richards was my great-grandfather. Many thanks. I don't have any index, and only have partial listings of Hardin Co., mostly in the Walnut Grove and Hollands Creek area between Lauderdale Co., AL and Savannah. I was only able to help the other person because they stated which name and page. Out of curiosity, I looked to see if it was in the same area I am working on, in case we were looking for the same lines, and luckily I had the page copied. Wish I could be of help, but I've just this week been sent three gedcoms that I need to incorporate into my main database, because all three submiters are related by blood, and it fills in my ancestors lines. I am trying to get updated to post all new files to my websites, and if I can, it will be over 6,000 files, to replace the ones I so have posted. Please feel free to check out my other surnames at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Prairie/7578 as there are a lot from Hardin Co. TN in it. The only ones posted to the websites are ones that I can tie into one of my ancestors lines, or married into them and had children. Such as my great-grandparents brothers and sisters and their descendants. If you post to the Hardin Co., TN list who, dates, places, and especially "possibly where in Hardin Co., they might be", such as close to second creek by Wayne Co. line or near Shilo Park and the McNairy County line, I'm sure others, including myself will want to check their databases for the same names if it is in the same areas where their research is at. Hoping others can help also. I checked my database, and do have Richardson families from Hardin but no Richards from there. Debbie Cossey Wasserburger the GenMaster
Months ago someone from this mailing list emailed me about Celia Strawn. I didn't keep your address because I didn't have a Celia in my line. This past weekend we had our Strawn/Hurley reunion. Someone there had done more extensive research and feels Celia Strawn is the daughter of Joel Strawn from Hardin County. If you will contact me, I will give you this person's name and email. The following was forwarded to me. I hope it will prove helpful in your research. OCCUPATIONS CHART It seems the War Chart was such a popular item (and a revised edition with additions and minor corrections is planned in a month or so) I have put together this "LIST OF OCCUPATIONS" used in the older records. I put these 130 items together from many sources and used it as a handout for our local Orange County (NY) Genealogical Society. I was asked by many War Chart recipients if the CHART could be forwarded to other lists or used in local newsletters. The answer is yes -- please share this > information.
