Dear Brian, My KELLEY ancestors came to Hardin Co. from SC also. They came from Spartenburg, SC, I believe. Maybe they came in a group. You might try looking there. I am interested in location information about my great grandmother, Mary California "Callie" STAGGS. She was born in Florence, Lauderdale County, AL on April 16, 1852. Her death certificate lists her parents as William STAGGS and Elizabeth HENDRIX both born in AL. She married Isaac Hitchcock in Walnut Grove, Hardin County, TN on September 22, 1870. She died October 3, 1919 and is buried in the Graham's Cemetery in Hardin County, TN. The children of Callie and Isaac HITCHCOCK are Anna Eulalia, Verdell, Laura Louemma "Emma", Lillian Estelle, John Humphrey, Sally Mae, and Edward Irving. I would like to receive any information about this family. Thanks!

Good Morning Everyone, Some of you are on more than one of these lists, and I am sorry for the duplication that will occur. Lauderdale Co AL web pages have been moved, and all queries thru 16 Nov 1998 have been posted. Stop by and look us over. http://www.rootsweb.com/~allauder/Index.htm
I need a look up for a divorce record - probably in Giles or Lawrence Co TN. for sometime probably just before 1850. Jonathan McMasters from Rebecca Frances Yancey McMasters. Also a cemetery look up for the same Rebecca Frances Yancey McMasters - sources say she died in 1885. The following 1850 Giles County Census record: p. 391B, district 18, house 16: Alferd M. Yancey 61 M farmer $350 NC Lucy A. 57 F " Margaret C. 24 F TN Joel C. 4 M Mary F. 1 F Francis McMasters 26 F TN I believe that Mary F (may be S as she was known as Sallie) was the child of Rebecca Frances Yancey McMasters and possibly Joel C was the son - does anyone connect or help me with this????!!! This is sort of a "black sheep" kind of story. Family here in Tishomingo County had always been told that Frances died and her two older sons and husband, Jonathan, came to Tishomingo county. He married Eliza Poteet and they had a family here in Tish Co. However, I have discovered that not only did Frances not die (then anyway!) but that "they" had Sallie and now possibly Joel C.!! The two boys I mentioned above that came with their father to Tish Co were Alexander Uriah (my ancestor) and William David - who left tish co sometime after 1870 census -anyone have anything on his whereabouts?? I have come into ownership of a handwritten document by Francis I suppose - that lists her Yancey family and was entitled "Grandfather and Grandmother of Alexander Uriah and William David McMasters" - the Yancey and Moore families - very good documentation - I am willing to share if anyone recognizes any of this! Thanks for any help! Brenda in Iuka

Hi, I'm new to this list. I'm researching Christian Palmer of either Hardeman or Hardin Co., TN. The census index lists both counties. He's listed on page 91 of the 1850 TN census but I don't know which county. I believe he had a son John Elisha Palmer born in TN. Could somebody either look at the census or give me a clue as to which county it might be. There is also a Joseph Palmer on the same page listed the same way. ANY help will surely be appreciated. Company "G," "Hardin County Yankee Hunters" I have had 7 responses to the post below. Two interested in the unit flag, 2 in J. R. McFall, One interested in J. M. Barnhill and one in A. H. Neill. I appreciate your responses. G. H. "Ham" Smith of Gillis' Mills fought in several big battles-- Shiloh, Peryville Ky, Chickamaugh and Nashville, wounded twice, paroled by Gen. Hatch at East Port MS in 1865, wouldn't take the "Oath." "No Sir" was his answer. He couldn't get a pension because there wasn't any record of his service. In 1916, Ham got the Mayor of Pauls Valley, OK, Tom Kindall, to give him a reference. Tom and his brothers, Samuel and Alfred, were in "G" Company. Tom gave Ham a good reference and in the letter stated that Ham was wounded serving under Col. Jake Biffle, while chasing bushwhackers that had killed David Reed, another member of "G" Company. This occurred a short while before the close of the war. Does anyone have any information on David Reed. The Reed family is buried at Mt. Tabor, however, David does not have a stone. I would like birth and death dates if possible, and any other information.
