    3. Sid, I take it you are doing well on the coast. I hope you guys can get the Allison thing worked out. My only connection was Emily Allison, daughter of John, niece of Clay, that was my next-door neighbor during my growingup years. She was the wife of Irvin Callens. Irvin was the brother of aunt Mammie Callens Whitlow, Tom Callens who ran the ferry at Pickwick and Towl Callens of Walkertown. I saw Leon yesterday, but didn't know I needed to ask him a question? Perhaps I will catch up with him tomorrow. I think I have some Allison Census material for early Hardin Co. if anyone needs it. 2. Patricia M Foster
    3. I am hoping someone can help with any information on J.W. BROWN, born February 26, 1835 in Hardin County. His father was JOHN BROWN and his mother was SARAH GARNER. J.W. was married three times: (1) PATIENCE VASSAR, (2) EMILY SLOAN and (3) MARTHA GARNER. J.W. and Emily had seven children. Four of the children were: HENRY, AMANDA, GEORGE W., and SARAH E. J.W. and Martha were the parents of MINNIE A., IDA M. and REUBEN A. There is a possibility that in 1862 J.W. enlisted in Company B, Col. White's regiment and during six months of service was in the Battle of Crane Hill. He left the service due to rheumatism. The family migrated to Clay County, Arkansas but, I am not sure when. I am finding too many blocks. Can anyone help me? In advance, I thank you. 3. Jesse, "Tennesseans In The Civil War" shows 4 William Fishers who fought as Rebels and one William Fisher who fought for the Yankees. There was no William D. or W. D. Fishers listed. None of the units involved appeared to be local. A review of "No Man's Land" by Tony Hays, a book about the Civil War in Hardin County, does not show a "Civil War" Fisher of any persuasion from Hardin County. David Cerro Gordo Jerry W. 2. Hello David, Wanted to say that I love this site and I don't see how you follow up as many request as you do. Great Job. I saw where you said that you are working on Allison's or had a file on them. My ggrandfather was Clayborn Smith Allison 1876-1964. My ggrandmother was Mary E. Ingle (Mollie) 1888-1973. Their children were Lettie Irene (my grandmother) 1905, Delmar abt. 1807, Hester abt. 1911, and George abt. 1916. The 1920 census shows them all living together as a family. Clayborn' s middle name supposed to be his mothers maiden name. Other than that I don't have any information beyond them. Does this Allison fit into your research? I would appreciate any information you could share with me. Thanks, Jimmy Smith

    3. Sharon, There is a Bethel Springs, and a Nixon Community. The Purgamas Cemetery is near Nixon. Bethel Springs is in McNairy County TN about 30 miles west, however, you may be referring to Bethel Church which is also near Nixon and is near Bethel Branch.? Bethel, a very old cemetery, is located at Bethel Church. Most anyone in the area can point out these Cemeteries. Reason Keaton was shown buried in Purgamas Cemetery by the 1980 Hardin County Cemetery Census. The Hardin County Library is located in Savannah, TN. The have very good resources for this area. I am not related to any of those you mentioned. Good Luck. 3. Sue, The original 10th C. D., ca 1836, included Crump's Landing and Pittsburg Landing and was located on the west side of the Tennessee River in the western part of the county. In 1850, the 10th was moved south and included Pittsburg Landing and Hamburg. In 1860 the 10th was moved south to the extreme southwest corner of the county and included the town of Hamburg. The district remained the same until 1900 at which time there were only 8 district. What had been the 9th and 10th, became the 6th, and included the communities of Pickwick, Counce and Hamburg. 1. [TNHARDIN-L] I'm headed that way?
    2. Sharon Morrow
    3. Hello, I've wanted to visit Hardin County for years, and now I'm so excited that my aunt, cousin, and I will head that way from Texas (Arlington) on or about April 17. My grandfather, Samuel Paul JONES was born near Bethel Springs in 1886; his father, James M. JONES, and wife Sarah ("Sallie") were married there (I think); and Sallie's grandparents, Reason and Sarah KEATON are buried (according to the county internet site) in Purgamus Cemetery at Nixon. I don't know where Sallie's parents, L. W. (Llewellyn?) JOHNSON and Caledonia KEATON are buried. My questions: Is anyone reading this digest connected to these families? Is there still a Bethel Springs? A cemetery there? Is there still a Nixon? If so, do either of these places have a genealogical library? Are there good resources at Savannah? Where would we likely find the most and best information in this area? Thank you for your help. Maybe I'll see you soon. Sincerely, Sharon Agee Morrow slm2@airmail.net

    3. Gayle, Below is the e-mail address of Grace Rogers. I am sending this message to her and the Hardin County list. If anyone has any information about Laden's Mill please keep me posted. When was its use discontinued? Who was the last operator? It appears that L. K. Laden was the last of that family to own the mill site. He sold out to A. H. Northcutt on 22 August, 1898. David Grace Rogers <glr25@wcc.net> David, I too am a desendant of John R. Laden, through his daughter Allie Laden (b,12-1954) second wife of Wm. David Robinson (b,4-21-1840). Their daughter Mildred Roberta Robinson (b,10-1886) married my g-grandfather Lon Calvin Spencer (b,3-25-1882) both in Hardin Co., TN. I had seen the name Laden's Mill on some census records. I would like to correspond with Grace Rogers. Would you forward my e-mail & snail mail addersses to her. Thank you, Gayle Robison Rt 11 Box 2760 Poplar Bluff, Mo. 63901 drobison@pbmo.net

    1. [TNHARDIN-L] Ross's Mill
    2. Does anyone have any infomation on Ross's Mill? When was it established, etc. Did they have a mill in 1878 ? I know they had one called SockWad but I don't know when it was established. My Great Grandfather William Theophilus Shutt may have worked at this mill. He died in 1878 and we think he is buried at Grahams Cemetery. The widow's pension papers says he worked at (the writing is hard to decipher)either Rosses Mill or Russel Mill. Any information on this will be appeciated. Winnie Shutt WCalloway@aol.com
