David, In case you dont have this already. I dont know if we talked about the Worleys. This came from Jim Worley (JWorley498@aol.com) via my cousin Will Creagle. Rebecca Casey Worley was one of eight children by Johann Michael Worley's first wife Mary Martin. Rebecca Casey married Theodore F. (PH) Barnhill. She was born abou 1834, probably in Hardin County TN. Records in the Hardin County Clerk's office dating 1869 and 1870 show the settlement of her father's estate which mention "Rebecca Casey Barnhill" as one of the ten heirs (all children of Michael), each inheritting one-tenth of Michael's land. Also, "TF Barnhill" is shown as one of the buyers at the estate sale for Michael's property. Michael and his second wife Lavina Bass or Basp had four sons. Jim Worley is descended from Abraham Isaac Jacob Worley. That means there were two kids missing at the time of the estate settlement. Ten out of 12 made it that far :) ==== oh here is Jim's query of 1998. Seeking descendents and information on 4 Worley brothers and allied families. Charles Pinkney B. WORLEY (m.Rebecca SURRATT), Peter Paul S. WORLEY (m Martha Elizabeth WINNINGHAM) and Thomas Gray L. WORLEY (m Mattie Matilda STALLINGS) came to Montague County from Hardin County, TN in 1870s. Abraham Isaac Jacob WORLEY (m Mary Ann WINNINGHAM) and joined them about 1894. from USGenWeb ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tn/hardin/census/18500001.txt 1850 Census of Hardin County page 200B Mf#400 WORLEY, Michael 56 M Farmer born VA Lavina 37 F NC Margaret A 18 F TN Rebecca C 16 F TN Susannah E 14 F TN John V A 12M TN Joel M W 6 M TN Charles P B 2 M TN Bost Abraham 25 M NC (related to Lavina somehow, brother??) The Worley family, in the persons of John and George, was in Hardin County in time for the first census in 1820 and members of that clan lived in the 2nd, 3rd and 6th Civil Districts by 1840. Does anyone have any information they will share on the Worleys of Hardin Co., TN? David Cerro Gordo
Good morning. To assist anyone who wishes to submit a pension abstract, I've posted to the Wayne County page a copy of our pension abstract form and some instructions for doing the abstract. To view and print out the form, first please go to the instructions page at http://www.netease.net/wayne/penabins.htm The form itself is at http://www.netease.net/wayne/penabform.htm Please remember if you are abstracting a pension record, or any record for that matter, DO NOT include information which is not in the record. If you wish to add extra-documentary information, please do so on a separate sheet. The whole purpose of doing an abstract is to extract only the information contained in the document without compromising its integrity. If you have a question about a date, the spelling of a name or place name, the indicate that with [?] beside your interpretation of the handwriting. That way, future researchers will know that you couldn't decipher someone "chicken scratching" and can check the original record for themselves. Appreciate the messages from those who are sending in pension abstracts. Hope the little form will help you in your task. Edgar Edgar D. Joe, Those names from the 1820 census listed in the Cerro Gordo article included the entire county. Not until 1840 did the census give the Civil Districts such that you could tell where a person lived at the time of the census. I didn't see a Helms in 1840 or 1850 in Hardin Co. In 1837 there was a Jonathan Helms who was listed as insolvent who lived in the 1st C. D. That would be close to Cerro Gordo in the northeast part of the county. He was listed as "Being insolvent and removed out of the county," again in 1840. Jonathan was listed as 1 white poll in the 1st C. D. in both the 1836 and 1837 Tax List for Hardin Co. Sandra, There are some names that did not transfer form the original list. Following below are the names of your McMahan ancestors that I found in the Cemetery Census. Polly Cagle McMahan was the sister of Rhoda Cagle Green, the wife of Elijah Green.. Elijah had an earlier wife and children before he married Rhoda. I don't have all of that figured out yet. I have received some very good information on the Green family recently from Imogene Bennett, Tammy Nichols and Ken Broyles. Ancestors of all these people, myself and your husband lived in the Center View Community near Cerro Gordo. I am sending this to the list so that we might stir up some more interest and perhaps find some help. David Cerro Gordo Mt. Vicki and Hardin Rooters, The Fork is the community north of Savannah roughly located between the Tennessee River on the west and Horse Creek on the east, situated along Cravens Landing Road which runs from Savannah to Cravens Landing on the Tennessee River. Cravens Landing, being about a mile or so upstream from Cerro Gordo, was used as a river crossing point up until about the turn of the century. Dear Ladies and Gentlemen: Over 1500 men from Wayne County, Tennessee and the surrounding counties served in the 2nd Tennessee Mounted Infantry, USV during the Civil War. We have published a list of all the men who served in the 2nd TMI and drew pensions, or their widows or children drew pensions. The list is available on-line at http://www.netease.net/wayne/penindex2TMI.htm This list has been published in "The Wayne County Historian" for several years now and has been available on the web page for over a year, yet we have not received any response to our earlier call for submission of pension files or abstracts. So I am calling for help. If you have the pension application file on any of the men listed on the pension index of the 2nd TMI, please let me know. I would like to get either a complete copy of the application file or an abstract of it. Surely someone on these lists has found an ancestor or relative who served in the 2TMI and filed for a pension. All pension application files will be abstracted and published on the web page and in the "Wayne County Historian". Abstracts submitted will be used as is. So come on, folks, and let me know if you have copies of the pension application files on these men. Edgar Edgar D.
