David would you please check those tax list for any Howell families, for Doctor Rainey and also P. N. Black. Thanks for your help. Sue
Hello and I am searching for information on my ggggrandmother Sarah E. Howell, she was reportedly born in Sumner county in 1833, however no record of her birth or family could be found. It is very possible she could have been in Hardin county at the time of birth. Anyone related to the Howell families in the area with any clues please let me know. She was married in 1848 to James L. Trevathan in Henry county TN, so she was in the area during those yours but where we dont know or who her parents might have been. Thank you Robin Holt Mccracken county KY

Would someone please look on the tax list for 1859 or 1860-70 to see if a P. C. (don't know the actual name) Harber appears. He was listed in the 1860 Hardin County census with wife Eliza A. and three daughters on some property so there should be some record of the land. I would appreciate this so much.

For someone who ask, Hookers Bend in on the west side of the Tennessee River between Saltillo and Savannah. A sharp bend in the river about half way between Savannah and Cerro Gordo is called Orr's Point. Orr's Landing was located on the west bank of the Tennessee River at about River Mile 182. Cravens is at 181 and Coffee is 186. I have included some additional census information on Orrs in Hardin Co. I am looking for information on the parents and/or other relatives of Dona Harrison Collie, b. 1/17/1890, d. 2/16/1993. She is buried at Mt. Herman. I have an undated clipping from a Savannah newspaper that was apparently published in 1990. There was a picture of Dona at 100 years of age with her great-great niece, Marilee Harrison. Article entitled: "Oldest mom, again: Centenarian Returns Home. The article mentions that Dona attended school in Savannah, and graduated from the Savannah Institute, and that she taught school at Oldtown. She left Savannah and moved to Chattanooga to be with a son in 1938 when her husband, who I believe was a carpenter, was killed in a car accident. The article mentioned 28 of her relatives having joined her for lunch at Christopher's Restaurant on that Monday, and that she had attended services at East End Methodist Church the previous day where she was presented with flowers for the seventh year as the oldest mom. I would be very interested in corresponding with anyone that might have further information on Dona's family. She was my husband's maternal grandmother. Jeanetta Sharp Albany, GA
Can any one tell me about the circumstances and rules of Hardin Co. estate auctions in the last half of the 19th century? Since there were no estate taxes to be paid, I am wondering about the reasons, other than personal debts, that would bring one about. I note in the records I have that the widow bid on some things. I am not sure I understand why. I know this particular person was wealthy, so I can't figure the reasoning for it. It is also interesting to note that his sons (from 1st marriage) were the high bidders on a lot of the items. In his estate inventory, he held notes on several people but no debts of his own were recorded. Can I assume he was not in debt? thanks for your help on this. Kathy
I can't answer the question about Louisa, but I can say that John Edgar Orr married twice first to Tennessee Adeline Kyle and second to Cora Meador. He and his first wife Tennessee's married 25 Sept. 1887 and there first child was Bertie and she married Abe Blankenship. John was the son of James T. Orr and Elizabeth Kirby. James T. Orr was the son of Thomas R. Orr and Thomas was one of three sons of George Thomas Orr . George Thomas Orr and Simpson Lee were the first two to settle the west bank of Hardin County in 1819. Henry
David or list, Do you know if there was a connection between the Orr family and the Story family? I thought there might be since the 1850 census listed Louisa J. Orr living in the home. Also, I show Miss Birtie (Mr. Abe Blankenship's wife) as being the daughter of John E. Orr (b. abt. 1865). Is this correct, and if so, how does John E. Orr fit into this Orr family? Ed, May I jump in here...not my business, of course, since I live in Obion County, but I've had the devil's own time trying to locate plat of older cemeteries up here....Would suggest you also place a copy of your finished platting with the Hardin County Library, and the local historical association. Then, there would be several copies extant...and available to other researchers. If the Lebanon Cemetery Assn's copy should be lost, it would be a shame, since you've put so much time and effort into this project. As a child, many years ago, I remember the old part of the cemetery was almost completely full of tombstones and now there are a lot of empty space there with no way of finding out who is buried in those empty spaces. I have platted out the old part of the cemetery and am trying to place the current tombstones in a grid where there will be some record, fifty years from now, on who is buried there. When it is completed, I plan to donate the project to the Lebanon Cemetery Association to do with as they wish. The project has turned out to be a bigger than I intended. I have the microfilm rolls of Hardin Co. deeds through Oct. 1896 and believe that the deed for the cemetery is within that time frame as some of the graves are older than that but have not been able to find the original deed. I wanted the deed to just be able to show a little history of the cemetery. If you are anyone should find a clue, I would certainly be grateful. Thanks again. Polly is listed on the 1840 Census with no spouse. Does anyone have her husbands name and where they came from,. Can anyone connect her to William. It is also thought that he married a Kendrick possibly from Tishomingo Co, MS. Thanking you in advance for anything you can provide on William and/or Polly and her family. Ed, There does not appear to be a deed for that property to Lebanon Church or Cemetery. There could be a deed to a board of directors of something of that nature that wouldn't be obvious in the index. I found a couple of other deeds for land added to the Cemetery, but not the original. I suspect that you would need to research the adjacent property owners and see when the first references were made to Lebanon Cemetery to learn which tract it came out of. It will take some time. I researched the most obvious adjacent tract, but ran aground when the deeds quit making reference to prior owners. When I run into some free time, I'll figure it out. I have a Maggie McBride in my line but do not have much information on her except she was the daughter of Hughey P. and Elsie Willis McBride. The Maggie I have was reported to have married an Unknown Horton. This is probably not the one you are looking for but please see my web site at the address below. McBride Cemetery: In the heart of Sardis, go west on Henderson Rd. or Hwy. 201. A short ways out, McBride Cemetery Rd. branches off and McBride Cemetery on the left. ----------------------------- See home page at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~adams1895
