Carter, You will note the 1840 census below, those Whites in the 2nd C. D. were the group from Bertie Co., NC and they were living at or near the community which would become know as Cerro Gordo ca 1849. This group came here in the 1830's and were joined by the family of Reuben White in the 1840's. See Ladicia White in the 1850 census below. Nowell White married Nancy J. Russell. Is Nowell named for his mother? Thomas White remained on the seat since of the Tennessee River, while his mother Ladicia and the rest of her family moved across the River to near Saltillo. I am looking for the parents of Elijah White shown in the 1850 census below. David 1820 Cen. Carter, I don't have anything earth shaking, but I would enjoy learning what you find concerning you White genealogy. I am related in a left handed way to Thomas White who lived here at Cerro Gordo. I have a great aunt, Mary Angeline Cagle, 1869-1963, who married William Henry White, 1856-1829, the son of Thomas. I have an interest in a couple of other Hardin County White lines as well. Lee Cate, just a note of thanks for your efforts in publishing the Hardin County Cemeteries online. Most of my family is in one or the other of them. My ggrandfather, Reuben White piloted Union gunboats on the Tenn river during the Civil War (I'm told) and my gf William B White (his son) are buried in Hardin county as are a number of others of the Whites. I think you listed most of the ones I know and some that I am now working on from that listing. I am just getting my feet on the ground with searching and I really appreciate the listings. Again, thanks, Carter White.

Decoration Day this Sunday, May 9 at Piney Grove and Mt. Herman Cemeteries. Just thought I'd remind everyone. Janey
Members of the Oakland Cemetery Association plan their second annual gathering on Decoration Day, Sunday, May 9, 2004, at 9:00 AM. Former residents of the Bend, or anyone with ties to Hookers Bend, are invited to attend the informal gathering to share memories and renew old friendships. To avoid interference with church attendance, the group meets only for about an hour or so. If you are interested in visiting, DON'T BE LATE! An hour just isn'tvery long. Also: ORVILLE GILCHRIST - your email was returned to me. If you are still on the list, please contact me again. Thank you, Jane Ellis A self-appointed family historian and proud of it. You can check out my family's history at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hookersbend/
Re the question/query worrier on Hardin County, TN, line about OneWorldTree Preview genealogy lines for sale, World Family Tree has so many errors in its files that Ancestry.com should not be trying to sell them. There are literally thousands of people who have been jumping in and putting information on line that they have not verified or documented, and much of it turns out to be wrong. It confuses people's family searches, and worse, still other amateurs will pick up the wrong info, paste it into their own files, and perpetuate the problem over and over again. There are a lot of people that get help that way, however, so use those published lines with great care, but use them if you need to. Family Tree Maker, has been selling people's genealogy lines they have been provided free of charge, for many years, through their numerous CDs, so making money off people's genealogy searches is not new for any of these companies. Thank you for forwarding this information. I've never submitted any info to Ancestry.com because I've never thought my info is actually complete. Additionally, I've seen some real mistakes on the work that has been submitted so I just steered clear. I do subscribe to other services, which by the way are actually produced by or for Ancestry, by paid workers. I have read the submission agreement. I have no quarrel with submitters not getting any monetary compensation. If you opt to SHARE with other researchers, then SHARE it must be. That leads to the other problem, Ancestry taking the accumulated data, for which it paid essentially nothing, offering it for sale and pocketing the profit. The material will no doubt be copyrighted. Then, you might not be able to use any of that material on your own website or any in publication/article you might author. I dare say, very few of you have read the Millenium copyright law. It is another example of a special interest group moving a law through Congress, with little or no attention paid by the general citizenry. Of course, part of that special interest group decides what gets publicity and what does not. So, it went quietly through. Read it, you won't like it. I have no problem with free enterprise and encourage it. I do have a problem with people, either knowingly or unknowlingly giving away their intellectual property to be copyrighted (and thus restricted ) to any enterprise, without the counsel of a lawyer who specializes in intellectual property. Do I think anyone will be sued by Ancestry? Probably not, unless you actually publish and sell anything you've previously "shared" with Ancestry. But, legal advice does not come cheap and I am not a lawyer. I have however had reason to seriously examine the Millenium copyright law. (Family businesses can't use the family surname, unless we want to hire some of those lawyers to deal with the ones employed by a certain computer company, who will assert a violation. It is a toss up who wins, but if we lose . . . ) Just guessing, but seems like 98% of us are just hobby genealogists. Even so, I hope enough people opt to keep their material out of the proposed sale of One World Tree to make Ancestry reconsider its plans. K Dell Jerry W.
