    3. Denise, I don't know much about the Dobbins family. In 1850, Jesse B. Dobbins lived next door to the John Polk family. 1850 Census, Hardin Co., TN 3rd C. D. 48-48 John Polk 42 SC blacksmith Keziah 42 SC Catherine E. 13 SC William H. 10 TN Elias W. 7 TN Rebecca M. 5 TN America A. 2 TN 49-49 Jesse B. Dobbins 45 SC farmer Milly 43 TN Thomas W. 17 TN Jesse M. 14 TN John W. 12 TN Mary J. 8 TN When the Civil War came along, apparently these two families were on apposing sides. One of the Dobbins boys shot and killed William H. Polk who was of the Confederate persuasion. Dobbins apparently had joined a local Federal unit. There are not many details, my information came down through the family of the Polks. William H. Polk was married to my distant cousin. Mary L. "Polly" Cagle. They had two children, Betty who married John Morris and Tennie who married Alexander Bain. William was buried in Bain Cemetery then moved to Mt. Herman. The rest of his family were buried at Mt Herman. Are you descended from this Dobbins family I have outlined above? David ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, May 16, 2004 5:26 AM Subject: Re: [TNHARDIN] Bain Cemetery relocation? Hi! Yes, Jesse Dobbins, who was born in 1891, was one of Carl's brothers. Their mother was my grandfather's sister. Carl did kill his mother in law, but apparently it was an accident. He and his wife had seperated and she had moved home to her parents house with the kids. Carl was mad that he couldn't see his children, and in anger he shot through the front door, killing his mother in law. I have a couple of letters he wrote a cousin of ours from prison when he was on death row. That was in 1935. Denise ps any info you have on the Dobbins family I'd be interested in.

Vulcan Materials, at the request of several members of the Bain family, petitioned the Chancery Court of Hardin County for permission to remove the graves from the Bain Cemetery to the Mount Herman Cemetery. Vulcan bought additional land for the addition to the Mt. Herman Cemetery and paid the cost of removal. The removal was done by Shackleford Funeral Directors. I represented Vulcan in the case and have the file on it but cannot remember the exact year, probably around 1980. We hired Grace Patterson, the county historian, to research the descendants of all of the persons burried in the cemetery and ones that could be found were notified. I believe that Lee Lackey was appointed to represent unknown descendants. The Bains wanted the cemetery moved because of the proximity to the limestone quarry and difficult access. Some of the Freemans objected but did not file any contest to the petition. Let me know if you would like any other information. 3. David, My great uncle William Henry White, about the same age as William Augustus "Gus" White, appears to have been the witness or bondsman when Gus and A P D Love were married. I think the father of Gus was Lidge White who shows in the 1850 census as follows: 1850 Cen. Hardin Co. TN 2nd C. D. 3-3 Elijah White 29 NC Sanesta J. 22 TN Wilie M. 1 TN I learned from Inez Michaels that family lore suggested that Lidge was killed during the Civil War. Recently I found a bit of evidence to support this theory. In the spring of 1863, Lige White shot and killed a Bivens who was with a raiding party trying to steal his horses. To quote Joab Russell, "The Tory Army stampeded the sicesh, captured their arms and horses. After this Madden (James Madison Russell?) and Lige went into Mr. Forests Critter Company and when grab got scarcd, Lige run away again, went home, turned Tory, but was unable to make his new friends believe his conversion was genuine and they sent him off to prison where he died. Do you know any thing else about the parents or grandparents of Elijah White? 3. David, I am sorry, I didn't make my self clear. Aunt Betty WAS the Tabitha Elizabeth I mentioned (copied again below). I didn't realize she was that old when she first married. Her father was very old when she was born and died when she was about 4 years old. David David After the death of his wife and daughters of smallpox in the winter of 1873, John Cagle, 01/01/1813- 01/09/1879, married the second time to his cousin, Deborah Tabitha Elizabeth Cagle Tidwell, 11/18/1840 - 04/29/1822. Deborah's husband, William H. Tidwell, may have been killed during the Civil War. On December 7, 1874, John and Debby were married. To this union, two children were born: Tabitha Elizabeth, 06/13/1875 - 05/13/1954 and John Lewis,1877-1858. Betty also married William Tidwell, Granville Whitlow and Dock Copeland. I don't know much about Poole, can you fill me in? In 1878 in Hardin county, Neil married Lydia Jane Haggard, daughter of Hope Haggard and Mary Ann Pool. 3. David, This is what I have on the family. Isaac Cornelius "Neil" Pool/e was born in 1854 in Meriweather county, Georgia, the son of Isaac Pool/e and Mary Y. Connell. He was one of eight children. One of his brothers, John McFarland Pool/e was my grandfather. I believe their father was killed in the Civil War and most all of these children moved west to Alabama and some on into Hardin County. In 1878 in Hardin county, Neil married Lydia Jane Haggard, daughter of Hope Haggard and Mary Ann Pool. They had eight children: Mary Ellen,1878-1964; Elzie J., 1881-1957; Luther M, 1883-?; Nona Maude, 1886-1963; Melvin M., 1888-1945; Alvie E., 1891-1892; Lillie L. 1893-?; Bessie, 1896-?. Mary Ellen married Walter Lucanus Love, Elzie J. married Sarah A., Nona Maude married John Perry Garner, Lillie L. married Fielding Carey, Bessie married John Hardin. Lydia Jane Haggard Pool died 4 May 1906 and Neil remarried to Betty Cagle, born about 1874. I do not know her parents names or her full name. Since she was 32 years old when she married Neil, Cagle may have been her name by a previous marriage. If you can fill in any data on her I would appreciate it. P.S. Wonder if thei Betty might be the Tabitha Elizabeth you mentioned? Thanks David Frazier

I am related in a left handed way to Thomas White who lived here at Cerro Gordo. I have a great aunt, Mary Angeline Cagle, 1869-1963, who married William Henry White, 1856-1829, the son of Thomas. I have an interest in a couple of other Hardin County White lines as well.
