    2. Reddin
    3. Would you know anything about this McCracken family? I have a Martha Jane (Jenny) McCracken as the first wife of Isaac Reddin. She was born about 1798 in NC and married Isaac about 1814 in Washington County, TN. Some speculation has been made that her father was Aquilla McCracken, but I have also found a Hugh, William Hugh and a James that may somehow be linked. Any help would be appreciated. 2. I entered the info from a document, but unfortunately did not enter the source in this particular case. I will locate it and get back to you (and comply with the basic rule of genealogy research and record the source!!). I have changed the marriage date to 12 Sep 1791 based on the info David supplied.

    1. Thomas Earl Wade papers
    2. Jonna Parish
    3. Does anyone have an e-mail address for the 2 sons of Thomas Earl Wade (Thomas Earl or James Edgar)? I have found that his papers have been given to the Tennessee Archives, but I am hoping that one of his sons might have copies of Parish/Parrish family information and photos. Thank you, Jonna Parish

    3. You might try Jim Landmesser. He has a Cherokee book store. If he doesn't have it, he probably can get it for you. Haven't corresponded with him for awhile, so hope his address is still good. [email protected] Wanda

    1. Wayne County, Tennessee History Fair
    2. Steve Cooper
    3. The Wayne County Historical Society of Wayne County, Tennessee will hold their annual "History Fair" tomorrow, Saturday, July 10th, 2004 at Collinwood School, Collinwood, Tennessee. The History Fair starts at 9:00 A.M. and will continue until about 3:00 or 4:00 P.M. Dear Cuzons: Each year the Wayne County Historical Society does a great job and each of us that attend are able to find those persons that are researching some of the same families that we research. If you had ancestors that were/are in Wayne County, Tennessee you should try your best to attend. I plan to be there and will be looking for others that research the following surnames: Cooper, Balentine, Koonce, Sinclair, Roach, Hill, Duncan, Fowler, South, Randolph, Milford, Rodgers/Rogers/Rodjers, Nolan/Nolen/Noland, Sharp, Woods/Wood, Whitten, Howell, Wesson, Poindexter, Witherspoon, Horton, Ayers, Gillis, Phillips, Lee/Leigh, McKelvey, Faires/Farris, Paulk, Palmer, Lamb, Duckett, Neal, Irons, O'Kelley, Valentine, Young, Cathey, Ghrigsby and other connecting families. Stop by my table and "chat a spell". My wife is related to half of the folks in Wayne County. SteveCooper Cloverdale, Alabama [email protected]

    3. Sandra, I am not familiar with that book, but will post this to the Hardin Co., List. Perhaps someone else will know something about it. David ----- Original Message ----- From: Sandra To: David Cagle Sent: Wednesday, July 07, 2004 11:42 PM Subject: Looking for book. Hi David, Our library is looking for a book and the librarian called me today and ask if I could get on the Hardin County site as their computers seems to be blocking Rootsweb sites? Anyway, she says the book is from Hardin County and is called "The Cherokee Wars". Do you know of a list of books? Was there not one at one time on the Hardin site? I had not seen the new look of Hardin County site, so will have to spend a little time getting use to it. I think the library is looking at several TN records on the Cherokee's as she mentioned several different types of records. Our library is really growing in the Genealogy department. Well, "see you later", Sandra Knight

The history books tell us that he ran a ferry at the place which eventually became Savannah about 1830. James is enumerated in the 1820 Hardin County Census as a Free Colored Person, aged 26 to 45. There is another Colored Male in the household of the same age and a Colored Female aged 0 to 14. In the 1830 census is listed a white female, Rebeca Rudd, aged 40 to 50. Also Free Colored Persons, 1 male aged 10 to 24, one female aged 0 to 10, and 3 females aged 10 to 24. "A History of Hardin County" written by B. G. Brazelton in 1885 shows that there were 4 ferries in Hardin County in 1820. James' Ferry at Grand View, James Hardin's Ferry at Cerro Gordo, Neilson's Ferry just south of Cravens and Rudd's Ferry at Savannah. Brazelton furthers states that Rudd built a log cabin at Savannah in 1821 and that David Robinson built the Cherry Mansion about 1830 and took over the ferry operation. I hope this helps. 1. Hardin County Historical Society Meeting
    2. David Cagle
    3. This Month the United States celebrates the 228th anniversary of our independence. Keeping this theme in mind, on Thursday, July the 15th 2004 at 7pm the Hardin County Historical Society will meet in the Welch Room of the Hardin County Library. Our speaker will be Herbert Perry who will talk about the Sons of Revolution. Herb will discuss how to join the organization and the benefits thereof. Herb and others will be available to help you determine if you have an ancestor who was a soldier in the American Revolution and how you might obtain information in that regard. We would enjoy having you as a member of the Historical Society and invite you to come to this meeting to see what we are all about. David Cagle, President Hardin County Historical Society

    3. Flo, In 1850, Andrew is living next door to William Kerr. Could this possibly be his father? 1850 Census, Hardin Co., TN 4th C. D. 52-52 William Kerr 72 NC Margaret A. 57 NC Mary A. 23 TN Elizabeth J. 21 TN 51-51 Andrew S. Kerr 30 TN 4th C. D. Susannah 29 AL Jane C. 2 TN Joseph H. 1/12 TN The 1840 Census, Hardin Co., TN shows: William Kerr 60/70 3rd C. D. male 15/20 2 females 10/15 2 females 15/20 female 40/50 The 15 to 20 year old male in the 1840 William Kerr household would be consistent with the 30 year old Andrew S. Kerr in the 1850 census. My ggg grandfather Andrew S. Kerr is in the 1850 census for Hardin County with his first wife Susanna and two of their living children. He moved to Sharp County, Arkansas after 1850 and his wife Susanna died in 1853 and he then married my ggg grandmother Elizabeth Minerva (Betsy) Mckee Bray, they are both buried in Arkansas. I am stuck on finding his parents, i'm hoping that i might get lucky and find some trace in the cemeteries. Thank you for the information you sent, if you can please send names and dates. Flo
