I'm combining a history and genealogy question here. I am looking for any information on a family named JONES whose house in Hardeman County was burned down during or shortly after the Civil War. My great-grandfather, John T. JONES, supposedly born in Hardeman Co. in 1859, came to Texas as a young boy with a family named ARMSTRONG who may or may not have been blood relatives (probably not). The man's name was William and the woman was called Puss. John T. told one of his sons that his family had been killed in a house fire "because of all the bitterness about the war." I would like to see if this family legend is true, and, if so, who the family members were who were killed. John T. was back in Hardeman County by the 1880 census, living with a McCLENDON family -- in December of that year he married Martha Elizabeth MCGLOTHLIN, step-daughter of George T. MCCLENDON. I'm also looking for information on an Ollie JONES who was a member of the 12th/22nd TN Infantry -- I saw his name listed in a Bolivar/Hardeman County newspaper c1885 as a member of this unit from Hardeman County. I am interested in him because my grandfather, son of John T. and Elizabeth, was named Lee Ollie Lafayette JONES -- I think this Ollie may have been a relative. Thanks, Nancy Harwood Houston, TX
