I have Thompsons in my family line who migrated to Hardeman County in 1826 when Henry THOMPSON, a poet and the first school teacher in the county brought his family there to live. The came from Rockingham County, NC. Henry (who was my 3rd Great grandfather) changed his name to TOMSON shortly before he left Hardeman county around 1838 and departed for central Missouri. He was both a poet and a writer and published in the Bolivar, TN newspapers of that era. I have a pretty good track on this line of Thompsons back to the immigrant ancestor Anthony Thompson who came to Maryland in 1670 and who first settled in Dorchester County, MD. Many of the Thompson in my line remained in Hardeman County after Henry Tomson left and are probably still there today.
