    1. [TNHARDEM-L] 1870 Hardeman County Census

    3. Does anyone have access to the 1870 Hardeman County census? I just found some notes I took several years ago (before I knew what Jones names I was really searching for) from a Tennessee census index. I found these people scattered through the Hardeman County entries, but all showing the same notation; I am assuming they were from the same family and living together, rather than heads of separate households (I foolishly did not pick that up from the census index). These people were Jones, John J. Jones, L.T. Jones, Martha Jones, Susan Jones, William J. The notation for each of them was 251, District 15. I'm not sure whether the 251 refers to a page or not, but I believe I have seen it for the same census for the family of Abijah CRAIN. I am particularly interested in this, because I am assuming that the L.T. JONEs is Leollin T. (yes, him again :-), that Martha is his mother, and that the Susan is his wife. I was under the impression that Leollin either (1) did not survive the Civil War or (2) was dead by 1870. If this is the right family, then I was mistaken, and he was still living as late as 1870. This makes the family legend of the family's all being killed in a house fire just after the Civil War (supposedly as a result of some bitterness still existing over that war) seem a bit shaky. If anyone has a way of looking this up, I would really appreciate it -- it's going to be at least two weeks before I can get to the library, and I'm really eager to chase this lead.
