Dan -- My 3rd greatgrandfather John Crawford would have been a contemporary of Arthur Fulghum. John was born in Wayne County, NC around 1774. He settled in middle Tennessee -- Rutherford County -- after 1800, but moved back to NC (Johnston County) after 1810. John and his wife Ann Fellow settled in Hardeman County in the 1820's. John died there before 1840. Here is a tangential connection to the McKinnies -- Ann Fellow Crawford's father William Fellow was married to Zilpha McKinnie, Alice's sister, before he married Ann's mother. I am interested in the name Raiford. (Two of John's brothers also settled in Hardeman County -- Raiford and Edwin.) Why were there so many children named "Raiford"? I realize that there were several familiies with the surname Raiford who lived in Isle of Wight County, VA and moved on to Wayne County, NC in the 18th century. Were these children named for one Raiford in particular? >From: "Dan Fulghum" <dfulghum@flex.net> >Reply-To: TNHARDEM-L@rootsweb.com >To: TNHARDEM-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [TNHARDEM] Arthur Fulghum >Date: Sun, 28 Sep 2003 21:25:33 -0500 > >Good Evening Everyone, > >The following is information that I have on Arthur Fulghum, son of Raiford >and Winneford (Pierce) Fulghum.
