Hi List, I'm Candace Cranford Gray and I live in the frosty woods of Maine. My father's (James Falconer Cranford) line comes from MS, AL, TN, GA, NC, and VA. I'm still not quite sure how I ended up here in the cold! I have two Hardeman Co., lines. The first is DUNCAN. Here is the info I have on William Carl DUNCAN: He is reported to have been a private first class in the Confederate Army. In an e-mail from Mary Ann Dobson to Pearlie Duncan Walker is the following: "If the father of William C. Duncan lived in Hardeman Co., TN in 1840 then it could be either Henry W. Duncan or Elihu G. Duncan." From Mary Ann Dobson: the 1850 Hardeman Co., TN census lists William C. Duncan, age 20 married in the year to Jane, age 18, born TN. There is a marriage of William C. Duncan to Mary Jane Anthony Dec. 17, 1849 in Hardeman Co., TN. ("Hardeman County, TN Marriages" by Amour, 1965, marriages 1838-1852.) (FHL film 989,284; SLC 9/8/1984; good index.) I tend to believe that William C. DUNCAN"S father was Elihu Garner DUNCAN because William named his youngest son Elihu and my father had a half-brother named Garner. I have William Carl DUNCAN b. 7 APR 1832, Hardeman Co., TN, d. 20 JUNE 1910 Middleton, Hardeman Co., TN, m. (1st) as above, m. (2nd) 18 JULY 1861, Elizabeth Jane WILEY b. 06 MAR 1843, TN, d. 24 JUL 1908, AL. The information I have on children of William and Mary Jane is incomplete, actually sketchy at best, but I have what I think is a complete list of children for William and Elizabeth. Elihu Garner DUNCAN b. 1804, possibly in NC, d.?, location unknown, m. Jane NULL, b.?, possibly in AL, d.?, location unknown. Any info on Jane NULL would be greatly appreciated. I have Elihu Garner DUNCAN's parents listed as Thomas Lane DUNCAN b. 1781, VA, d. 1827, Hardeman Co., TN, m. Elizabeth McHURGH b. 26 JAN 17 1766 (This date does not seem right to me. Perhaps it's 1786?), Larens Co., SC, d. 2 JUL 1842, location unknown, buried in Pototoc Co., MS. If anyone comes across a record that documents the link between William Carl and Elihu Garner DUNCAN, I would truly appreciate hearing from you. My other Hardeman line is FERRELL. Robert Wood? DUNCAN b. 23 APR 1862 Middleton, TN d. 16 SEPT 1926 m. 28 JAN 1890, Ida Pamelia (sp?) FERRELL b. 18 July 1870 Chawalla, TN d. 5 APR 1954, Grand Prairie, TX. Ida was the daughter of James Lewis FERRELL b. ? location unknown d. 1935, location unknown and Jane HANSEN b. ? location unknown d. ?, location unknown. If anyone has any info on James Lewis FERRELL's parents (I have his father listed as William Lowe FERRELL m. Maria?) and siblings (I have one sister listed as Martha) I would love to hear from you. Other surnames I am researching: ARUNDEL, BEAVERT, BENGE, CONNER, CONYERS, CRANFORD, CRIDER, DUNCAN, FERRELL, FILES, GRAY, HOFLER or HOLTERFOFF, JONES, LEWIS, MANLEY, MARTIN, MCHURGH, NULL, TERRELL, WILEY, WILKES Thanks for reading all of this. It may give some of us some new leads or freshen up some old ones. Anyone else interested? I will start and those who want to join in just jump right in here. Those who don't, just delete. My name is Susan Glidewell-Hinckley. I am in North Mississippi. I am looking for the following surnames in Hardeman county: King, Glidewell, Swindle, Tindoll, Webb, Cooper, Crouse and McCarver. Some of the other names I am researching outside of Hardeman county are: Kellum, Greene, Green, Palmertree, Faulkner, Fortner, Jennings and Prewitt. Any information would be great. Several of those I am just starting on but, there are also quiet a few that I have a good deal of information on. I am looking forward to hearing from the rest of you.
