His mother was Jennie Love Woods Robinson. His siblings, Lelton, Johnnie, Caldonia (Callie), Joe, Annie, Mollie, Vennie, Minnie and Lillie. Burl was born in Murfreesboro and then the family fled Tennessee in the late 1890s and settled first in Holly Grove and then W. Helena.. Burl's offspring included James, Alice, Lee Esther and Ruby.
