W. is my ancestor, and his f-i-l was Jack Farned, often misspelled. I am convinced there is a reason why James settled in Hardeman and in Saulsbury. Family lore has it that there is some connection with Mary Todd Lincoln, but that may be wishful thinking. In my data I picked up that Levi M. Todd had a brother named Major William Todd. I am wondering if he is the same Major William Todd who married (2nd) Emily Williams. If so, it would add some explanation to the movement of my Todds.

    3. I visited the Ramer Cemetery in Hardeman County 28 January 2003. I found the cemetery about 7 miles west of Middleton. 7 miles west of the intersection of highways 125 and 57 turn right on Rocky Springs Road. Take the first road to the right, about 1/2 mile from highway 57. My wife is a descendant of Jacob Harrison Jr. Webb. Jacob and his wife Julia Amanda Hensley are buried in the Ramer Cemetery. 3. Arlene, I HAVE WILSONS THAT WERE IN HARDEMAN COUNTY AND ALA IN THE 1870'S AND 1880'S. MY G-GRANDFATHER WAS JAMES WESLEY WILSON. HE WAS IN HARDEMAN COUNTY IN 1879 WHEN A SON, WESLEY GREEN WILSON, DIED AND WAS BURIED EAST OF HICKORY VALLEY. HE WAS BACK IN FLORENCE, ALA IN THE 1880 CENSUS. HE HAD BEEN IN ALA WHEN MY GRANDMOTHER WAS BORN IN 1877. I AM NOT SURE WHEN THEY MOVED TO HARDEMAN COUNTY TO STAY. HE DIED THERE IN 1904. IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT HE CAME TO HARDEMAN COUNTY WITH A BROTHER, BUT I HAVE NOT LEARNED THE NAME OF HIS BROTHER. MY JAMES WESLEY WILSON WAS BORN IN 1844 IN ALA. I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HIS FAMILY. IT IS SAID THAT HIS MOTHER WAS FULL BLOODED CHEROKEE AND HIS FATHER WAS WHITE. I HOPE TO VERIFY THIS SOME DAY. SAULSBURY IS ABOUT 6 MILES SOUTH OF WHERE JAMES WAS LIVING IN 1879. HE LATER MOVED WEST OF HICKORY VALLEY. HE IS BURIED IN MIDDLEBURG CEMETERY NORTH OF HICKORY VALLEY. YOU CAN EMAIL ME AT: HD.CLARK@WORLDNET.ATT.NET DOES ANY OF THIS MATCH WITH YOUR WILSON INFO? I was intrigued by the fact that you have the name Permelia in your line, even though it was in your HARRIS line. I have James Lewis FERRELL's father listed as William Lowe FERRELL b. ? d. ? m. Maria ? They also had a daughter Martha. If anyone has any info on James Lewis FERRELL's parents and siblings or other children, I would love to hear from you. My surnames in Hardeman County are FERRELL/FERRILL, ROGERS, and HARRIS. So far, FERRELL is the only one I have spent much time on. My great-great grandfather, Thomas F. FERRELL (1820-1878), married Nancy S. ROGERS (1830-1910) in October of 1853. They are both buried in the New Hope Church of Christ Cemetery. Nancy's parents were Richard ROGERS and Permelia HARRIS. Thomas was born in North Carolina and married Mary SHEARIN there before coming to Hardeman Co. I don't know who his parents are at this point. Thomas and Mary had 3 children that I know of: Asa J.; Mary Elizabeth; and George F. Thomas and Nancy had 10 children according to her Civil War widow's pension application, 6 of which were still living in 1905: Richard Franklin (my great-grandfather); William C.; Sarah C.; Robert Monroe; Sophronia F.; and Margaret Alice. Thanks, Jenwyl

    1. [TNHARDEM] Wilson/McCarley
    2. Hi, I'm Arlene from California. Any help with the following surnames would be appreciated: WILSON, KIMBROUGH, SALE/SALES/SAILES, MAY, JACOBS, MAYFIELD. I'm researching Jacob R. WILSON and family. Originally from Lauderdale Co., AL, he moved up to Saulsbury from Salem, Tippah Co., MS in the 1870s. He is listed in the 1880 Hardeman Co., TN Census. His son, Columbus C. Wilson, b. Jun 1860, Madison, AR, married Ida MCCARLEY, daughter of Fannie and W. W. McCarley in 1882. He died 1884 and is buried in Saulsbury Methodist Cemetery. I would like to find out what happened to his widow and child/children. Jacob R. Wilson's daughter Mary Eliz. WILSON married Thomas Richard KIMBROUGH in Hardeman Co. in Nov 1874. Their first child, Mattie Geneva Kimbrough, was born in Saulsbury in 1875. They moved over to Sand Hill, Tippah Co., MS by 1878. The Kimbroughs moved to Terrell, Kaufman co., TX in 1886 and the Wilsons moved there in 1887. I am trying to find death records for Thomas Richard Kimbrough's mother, Frances Eliz. (SALE) KIMBROUGH. She died June 1879 "near Ripley," Tippah Co., MS. Samuel A. C. SALE, possibly the brother of Frances Eliz. Sale Kimbrough, moved to Hardeman Co., buying property from his nephew, A. J. (Andrew Jackson) MAY and his wife Mary May in March 1889. S. A. C. Sale's daughters Evie and Blanchie were married to W. R. JACOBS. Some of the Sales and Jacobs are buried in Ramer Cemetery outside of Saulsbury. A. J. MAY and his brother Thomas John May were living in Hardeman Co. in 1870 and 1880 before moving to Texas. A. J. May's first wife, Louisa C. May died Mar 1872 and is also buried in the Ramer Cemetery. Would like to know if Emily Virginia May, d. Aug 1889, is also buried there. Another brother, Samuel W. May was living in Hardeman Co. in 1880 before he moved to Texas. James and Mary MAYFIELD were living in Hardeman Co. in 1820 prior to moving to Illinois.
