Last year (1997) in mid October I presented a paper at the Ohio Valley History Conference in Clarksville Tennessee. My paper was on Purdy College which was in Purdy (McNairy County). This seems to be a life long research project. As I was recently looking thru my pack of materials from the conference I was reminded of a paper presented there that related to Hardeman County. Near the end of the Conference I just happended to sit in on a paper that was about the Rogers Springs Inn of Hardeman County. There was a person from the University of Memphis that did the presentation. Rogers Springs was a resort type hotel where people came to rest, drink the mineral water and feel better. I had lived in Hardeman county in the late 70s as a school teacher and had family members in the county (I am from McNairy COunty) but had never heard of Rogers Springs. Just thought I would share this side note to Hardeman county history with you. David

Mindy When you have the chance, could you glance at the Hunt's. To make further use of this post: I am looking for information on John Hunt and Wilkins Hunt. John Hunt fathered John Wilkins Hunt. Wilkins fathered William and Avery Hunt, both of whom moved to Madison Co. John and Wilkins both live in the Grand Junction Area. The Hunt home built by John Wilkins Hunt still stands and the land was sold to the Ames Plantation. What I don't know is Wilkins Hunt's wife, all I know is Lucy ? and do not have concrete proof of that. Both men came from Sussex Va and were the children of Thomas Hunt. Any information would be of help, and I will share to interested parties. John Hunt

I'm looking for information on Squire GEORGE and James N. ROSS who both appear in the 1840 census in Hardeman Co., TN. By 1850, Squire seems to have moved on to Henderson as had James Francis Ross who was married in Hardeman Co, TN in 1841, to Sarah George. Was James Francis Ross the son of James N. Ross? Was Sarah George the daughter of Squire George? Thanks, Donna Email: [email protected] Home page: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~dsuarez
