Mindy: Thanks for volunteering to do lookups in the book, HARDEMAN COUNTY HISTORICAL SKETCHES. I am sure you've been swamped with requests and humbly ask that you consider mine. I am looking for any information on the Robley, Oswald, and Wilkes families. My earliest ancestors there were Thomas Abner & Jane S. (Wilkes) Robley (migrated from Maury Co., TN in 1834). Their oldest child, John Barry Robley married Catherine Oswald in 1858. I have no lead on her parents, but they were living in Hardeman County at the time of that marriage. I am especially desperate for any OSWALD family leads, but would be interested in information about any of these families. Below is what I do know. I would appreciate anything you can find these lines in the book you mentioned. Thank you, Jennifer Smith (More Info below) Thomas Abner Robley, b 1800 Rowan Co., NC; d 1885 Hardeman Co, TN Jane S. From: Marvin Essary Howell, Sacramento, Calif. November 7, 1998, 11:50 AM (PST) My parents and siblings were born in Hardeman County, so I have had a strong interest in the area. I bought HARDEMAN COUNTY HISTORICAL SKETCHES, and on a trip to Bolivar in the 1980s visited with Faye Tennyson Davidson, founder and president of the county historical society. I had a wonderful visit with Faye, and learned that we were DISTANT cousins, since we shared common Howell ancestor. She was gracious enough to share her Howell lineage information with me, and helped me to find information about the Essarys of Essary Springs (founder Benjamin Essary was my g-great grandfather). I subscribed to the Bolivar newspaper for several years to read the regular historical column that Faye wrote. The purpose of this letter is to find out if any of you can give me any updated information about Faye Tennyson Davidson. Someone told me that she had had a stroke and does not do genealogy research any more. I would love to have news about her. Faye showed me her filing cabinets of information about families in Hardeman County. She had done a prodigious among of work writing her data manually and by typewriter. How that dear lady would have enjoyed the new access to information that the Internet provides. Can someone give me an update about distant cousin Faye? Who am I? I am a retired college administrator (Sacramento City College) and former newspaper reporter. I am married to Ellenor Joy Hardeman (who is related to the Thomas Jones Hardeman for whom the county was named). (She is also the niece of N. B. Hardeman, the cofounder of Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson). So, that partly explains our interest in Hardeman County. Marvin Essary Howell - [email protected]
Thanks for your info. Have you come across a William Rufus Jernigan he was Wrigdon son. He was my grandmother's father. Thanks again, Diane
