Hello all. I have a 2 part inquiry. The first is in response to the SISCO family line. Happy New Year Ms. Baker!!! I have a Hazel Harrrington Sisco, a descendant of Grace WORLEY and James William WORLEY. Her ancestors came from the middle Tennessee area. Does any of this sound familiar? Part 2. On the other side of my family tree I have a ROBINSON Family line. They were also a resident of Hardaman County at the turn of the century. My SURNAME list is as follows: ROBINSON, TRAINUM, ADAMS, CORBET, FINLEY, WORLEY, ESTES Cicero ROBINSON b.1872 m. Drusilla Kirk b. 1874 Margie Robinson Ocie Robinson Mildred Robinson Sebastian Robinson Layla Robinson Simon Wright Robinson Lemuel Robinson Any information regarding this family line would be greatly appreciated. For 1999, I would like to find as much information about the Hunt's of Hardeman County that I can. Specifically where there land was, transcribe the old cemetery at the Hunt House ( if I can get past the big Dog's lol) and learn more about the lives of my ancestors. the following is what I know. Wilkins Jones Hunt and his brother John Hunt, both moved to Hardeman County between 1824 and 1830. Both acquired land of around 1000 acres each, just north of grand junction ( I believe). Please help me and read the following carefully. It's confusing but is a very big missing piece of my puzzle... and I believe it could relate to others in Hardeman county as well. There father was Thomas Hunt of Sussex Va., his wife was Dorothy. John Hunt lost his family to a fever there except for one daughter. He remarried and raised a family in Hardeman county. His Daughter that survived the fever later mothered Lucy Pickins, civil war buffs might recognize that name. She was married to the governor who fired the shot heard around the world, to start the civil war. She was also pictured on the confederate 1 and 100 dollar bills. just tidbit info for interest. John Hunt named a son John Wilkins Hunt, assuming after his brother. John W Hunt built the Hunt home that still stands in Hardeman county, if any of you are familiar with it. I have seen the home from the driveway and it is wonderful to think that years ago my relatives built and lived there. I am going to try and get a tour of the home if I can locate the owner. Knocking on the door was out of the question...the dogs are bigger than I am. :) I also know that John Hunt's descendents sold there land to the Ames Plantation, but do not know what the boundaries were..still researching that. Wilkins Jones Hunt ( my direct ancestor) has proved to be more difficult to learn about than John. He had 2 sons and 3 daughters.. William, Avery, Mary, Virginia, and Lucy. Here is the part that gets confusing. 4 of these children married children of William Dickins. William Dickins was the brother of Samuel Dickins. So who is Samuel Dickins, well he was a land prospector in west Tennessee. both William and Samuel lived in north Madison County, bout 60 miles north of Grand Junction. How did these families meet? I asked myself that question, and then came up with a little theory.. yes it gets worse..lol Samuel Dickins was partners with a man by the name of Thomas Hunt (not Wilkins' and John's father) This Thomas is from another line of Hunt's that I am trying to tie my line into. So Samuel and Thomas hired Thomas' nephew Memucan Hunt Howard to survey thelands they acquired. Maybe Memucan new John and Wilkins and maybe that's how William Dickins' children met Wilkins' children? All of Wilkins' children left Hardeman and moved to Madison County. There appears to be one other child of Wilkins, Lucy Hunt named after her mother. she appears in records of guardianship for William Hunt her brother, but disappears. I also have no Idea what happened to Wilkins wife Lucy, she is mentioned in some Dickins family papers as the mother of the 4 Hunt children, but have no idea where she is. The information may help others in learning how the land was settled, if your ancestors came from Sussea Co Va, then maybe the families new each other, or even travled together to Hardeman Co. I really believe that the Memucan Hunt Howard is my key, many of you will find his name on deed's of your ancestors. I have a copy of a power of attorney for Memucan to act on behalf of Thomas Hunt. In later years Memucan partnered with Samuel alone. Yes this is long, but if u made it this far, congratulations :)) I don't post often, so when I do, I get carried away. I have some dates if anyone is interested in them. But wanted to give a broad overview of the family to see if it would jog someones memory. Maybe you have run across that little piece of paper that I need to put it all together. I hope so. :) If anyone can provide any information on any of the Hunts, I would be most grateful. I am also willing to share if anyone is interested. If you see a Hunt in your research, please pass it along to me.
Peggy and Karen, As I mentioned a week or so ago, I am related to the Pirtles in Hardeman county. There are some Pirtles buried in North Hardeman County in a cemetary on Private Property . My Great Grand Mother is buried there. My mother, age 79, had never been there, but knew people who did know where it was.... I had ask her a month or more ago to get directions so that we might visit it when when we are there next time.. She and my sister went today........ There are a number of graves there, many unmarked, but some of those that are marked are Pirtles (3-5). Who are you looking for? I don't know much about this side of the family, but my mother might know... Re: email posting [TNHARDEM-L] Lets Find Relatives in 1999 ! Hi Susie, I'm new to this particular list. I have Thompsons in my family line who migrated to Hardeman County in 1826 when Henry THOMPSON, a poet and the first school teacher in the county brought his family there to live. The came from Rockingham County, NC. Henry (who was my 3rd Great grandfather) changed his name to TOMSON shortly before he left Hardeman county around 1838 and departed for central Missouri. He was both a poet and a writer and published in the Bolivar, TN newspapers of that era. I have a pretty good track on this line of Thompsons back to the immigrant ancestor Anthony Thompson who came to Maryland in 1670 and who first settled in Dorchester County, MD. Many of the Thompson in my line remained in Hardeman County after Henry Tomson left and are probably still there today. I'll be glad to share what I have. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Descendants of Thomas Thompson Generation No. 1 1. Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said... "Too bad about the data for which you wrote Sank in a storm on an ill fated boat." Stacks of old copies of wills and the such Were proof that my work had become much to much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop >From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparent's wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer; I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a great fright. Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. When what to my wondering eyes should appear? But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew, With a sleigh full of toys, and old Santa Claus too. And then in a twinkle, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And look at our roof with hoof-prints adorned. As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa - KER-RASH! "Dear" Santa had come from the roof in a wreck, And tracked soot on the carpet, (I could wring his short neck!) Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings, (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread "A genealogist!" He cried! (My face was all red!) "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned. As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement - the cover it read "Genealogy Lines for Which You Have Plead." "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug," He said as he gave me a a great Santa Hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library! A special treat I am thus able to bring, To genealogy folks who can't find a thing. Now off you go to your bed for a rest, I'll clean up the house from this genealogy mess." As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me. While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle, To his team which then rose like the down of a thistle And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family History is Fun! Merry Christmas! Goodnight! I sure hope he brings a book on CROUSE and TAYLOR! Happy Holidays all, Susie Jourdan - Grant Burbank IL.
