A kind person on the JONES list wrote to me just now about a Leollin T. Jones listed in the 1860 census of Hardeman Co. He was shown as 20 (b ca 1840) and married to Susan, age 20. The only child listed for them was a John F. (or probably T), a year old. This fits so well with my John T.(Thomas or Thompson) JONES, born TN 1859, AND the fact that my John T. named his first son, my grandfather, Lee Ollive/Ollie Lafayette JONES. I am wondering now (since I don't remember ever seeing my grandfather's full name written out on any official document) if his name may really have been Leollin Lafayette, and the "Lee Ollive/Ollie" simply the way it was passed on by word of mouth. I believe he is listed on his death certificate as either Lee or L.L. If anyone knows more about Leollin T. Jones, I'd really appreciate hearing. Thanks, Nancy Harwood Hi Nancy, I found a John F. (or probably T.), 1 year-old, in the 1860 TN census index, Hardeman Co., TN. This John was the son of Leollin T. Jones, 20 (b ca 1840), and Susan, 20. John was the only child listed, so Leollin and Susan were probably recently married.

Hello Thomas - I am researching the McGEE line from Hardeman Co. The JOHN McGEE who married NANCY MURPHY is the brother to my descendant. JOHN McGEE was born about 1800 in North Carolina and died before February 5, 1944 in Hardeman Co. His father was a WILLIAM McGEE and his mother was an O'KELLY. This is all I know about him. Would you happen to have any more info. on this JOHN and also on any children with NANCY? Thank you, Rick Gregg Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

To <fred33...>who wrote "I also know that John Hunt's descendents sold their land to the Ames Plantation, but do not know what the boundaries were..still researching that." Ames Plantation has a web site, where you might find some information about the acreage, etc. The Hunts probably owned some of the land which is now Ames, but I believe the main part of the plantation was owned by John Walker Jones, and was originally called Cedar Grove Plantation. Many other people owned tracts which are now part of the 18,567 acres willed to the University of Tennessee in 1950 by Julia Colony Ames. This is a wonderful place to visit and they have a Field Day each year in October when exhibits and demonstrations are shown. The Hunt House MAY be owned by Ames. The Ames page address is <http://www.amesplantation.org.> Some of the Surry/Sussex Co VA Hunts went to Hancock Co GA, but I do not know if they are ancestors of the ones who settled in Hardeman Co. There is an interesting book called _Ambiguous Lives_ which covers the African American Hancock Co GA Hunts.
