My grandmother Junie (Juney) Burke was married to Roy J. Vaughn who was born March 23, 1886 and died July, 1966. Bible records show the marriage to be April 17, 1921. A short time after my father Hugh Kyle Vaughn was born (Jan.18, 1923) in Idol Tn. of Hancock County she died. She was never mentioned to him. Seems to be a real mystery with the family. I found her only in the 1920 census living with her sister Mary Burke ( I have been told that she and Mary were very close, and when Junie died, Mary was given her Bible. (What a find that would be.) Mary married Luther Stapleton, and, I have several OLD and beautiful postcards from Luther to my grandmother, Junie. Luther and Mary lived in Va. (no children), but both are buried in the Burke cemetary in Hancock County. My grandmother isn't. She also had a brother, Harrison Burke (b. 8-14-1891 d.11-14-1988) who was superintendent of schools in the county at one time. Her parents were John Ransom Burke and Martha Ja! ne Chandler. I have info on the family, however, except for the 1920 census ( I have a copy ), one picture of her, and my father's birth certificate, it's like she didn't exist. I have looked through the death records at the library...no luck. I am willing to do all the work to find info about her.....I just don't know the next step to take.
