GREENE, CARL WILLIAM - age 87, of Morristown, son of James Henry Greene and Eva Brewer Greene, born October 27, 1916, passed away Monday, December 8, 2003. He was preceded in death by both parents, older brother and sister-in-law, Ambrose Kyle and Angeline Surgenor Greene; wife of 52 years, LeNell Seal Greene and infant daughter, Phyllis June Greene; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie Greene Testerman and Leonard Testerman. He was saved at Cedar Grove Baptist Church where he was later licensed and ordained to preach the Gospel. He taught school for three years in one and two-room schools in the 30's. He later taught 9 1/2 years at Hancock County High School. He worked 12 years and 8 months for Powell Valley Electrical Coop in Jonesville, VA. Ha pastored Sneedville First Baptist Church for 20 1/2 years and War Creek Baptist Church for 8 years, plus about 4 1/2 years as Interim. During the 60's & 70's, he served 7 years as Director of The Tennessee Baptist Convention. H! e also served in a number of churches as Interim (or supply) Pastor. Wherever he served he usually taught Sunday school and was active in Vacation Bible School. He is survived by wife, Jackie Canton Greene of Morristown; sons and daughters-in-law, Maurice and Dorothy (Dottie) Greene and Elton (EB) Greene; grandsons, Edwin Maurice Greene and Elton Ben Greene; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ada Ruth Shockley of Tazewell, Ruby Elkins of Morristown and Lillie Bell and Warren Reed of Sneedville; brothers and sisters-in-law,Elmer (ECK) and Millie Greene of Morristown, Glenn and Polly Greene of Strawberry Plains, Dr. James Henry Greene, Jr. of Loma Poc., California and John D. Greene of Lenoir City; a host of neices, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday , December 11, 2003 at Sneedville First Baptist Church, Rev. Ray Adams officiating. Interment will be in Greene-Brewer Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Wed! nesday, December 10, 2003 at Sneedville First Baptist Church.
