Is Barbara Moore, who submitted many pictures to the new Hancock County Pictorial a member of this list? If so would she please contact me. I have some questions about some of the pictures she submitted. Many thanks, Sherry
Sherry I don't have a Henry listed either. Tell me about this new Hancock County Pictorial book. This sounds different from the Hancock Co and Its People. I have Vol II. How can we get a copy. Elsie
Hello, Does anyone have any clue who the Civil War Veteran, Henry Ferguson on page 54 of the new Hancock County Pictorial belongs to? I have lots of Ferguson's but don't show any Henry's. Sherry
Does anyone have information on brothers John and Henry Baker. Henry died about 1907 from measles. He was already a grandfather at that time. Henry was married to Nancy Sufridge. They had several children some of which were Martha, Horace/Gordon and "Tip". John had two daughters that I know of named Molly S. and Lula J. I believe that Lula J. married a Sam Widner. John and Henry's father may have been Calvin. No idea as to their mother or whether or not the had siblings. I know that Henry at some times lived in Claiborne County and believe that he died there. But, he may have moved back and forth between there and Middlesboro. Common names and not too much specific info, but thought I'd try anyway. Thanks. Hancock County, TN wasn't formed until 1843-1844. Check Claiborne and/or Hawkins County, TN for records. -- Richard A. Mathis ramat@mindspring.com
Hi everyone, I am seeking info on several "lost" family members last seen in Hancock county. In the 1860 census, my Carpenter family was intact, bus somehow between 1860 and 1867 the wife Edy/Allie dies and I also lost track of the daughters Mary M., Cornelia, and maragaret. Ensley is found in Whitley with a new wife and 3 yr old daughter in the 1870 census. Here's the 1860 census: Carpenter, Ensly (40) Sadler Edy (37) Mary (17) Wm. J (15) Jeremiah (11) Cornelia (7) Margaret (4) Henry ( 1 month) Can anyone help? Was there a newpaper around this time in Sneedville? I'm also wondering if perhaps Edy wasn't an native american since data on her is so impossible to find. Were there marriage records in Hancock around 1839? Thanks for reading all of this __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Messenger http://phonecard.yahoo.com/
I thought I would put my search back out to the list. I am researching my GGGgrandfather Thomas G. BRITT Jr. He was born 10/16/1835. I know he is found with his father, mother and siblings on the Knox County, Census 1850. He is then listed on the Jefferson County Census 1870, I am told, but have not had a chance to get to a library to look this info up. Our nearest research library is 75miles away. I have been told he is listed with his first wife Martha CUNNINGHAM. In 1880, Thomas and his second wife ( my GGGGrandmother) is listed on the Hancock County Census. Also listed on the Census is Thomas's son, John and his wife AdieTROLINGER, and Thomas' daughter Sally. There is also a Mary J. Britt (23yrs.) and a Nancy E. Britt (5 1/2months) I am not sure who these people are. In one census look-up that was given to me, it list these individuals with the last name of RINGLE. Apparently it was difficult to read. So am not sure if it was BRITT or RINGLE. My hope is, through the names of these individuals, I might find some connection to Thomas G. Britt Jr's. second wife, Frances Evaline DAVIS. All I know is that she was disowned because of her marriage to Thomas. She was born in 1859. I ! know she was born in Tn. From stories she told my grandmother, she came from a wealthy family. She had 3 daughters with Thomas and I believe at least one, possibly two were born in Tn. I have hit brick walls on both families, Francis and Thomas. I cant find anything on the parents of Thomas prior to 1850. And I cant find anything on Frances prior to her marriage on 12/1/1878 in Hamblen County. Any help, suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Kay
Hello, I'm interested in finding the person who submitted information on page 82 of the new Hancock County Pictorial. The pictures are of the family of James and Mollie Ferguson Johnson. I think Kyle Johnson submitted the pictures however I not 100% sure. If someone has information on how to contact this person please let me know. Many thanks, again. :) Sherry
Hello list, I've just received my copy of the Hancock County Pictorial. It is very nice! Lots of pictures and information. On page 80 there is a family I'm interested in finding. The pictures were submitted by a Bert A. Trent. Unfortunately the book doesn't give addresses or contact information, just the submitters name. Anyway, the pictures are of the family of David and Mary Harris Trent. David and Mary had these children, Walter, Leonard, James, Eva, Aytchera (HU), Martha, and Homer Trent. According to the book Homer is Bert's father. I believe this Mary Harris is the daughter of James B. and Aytchera Murrell Harris. If Bert or anyone that knows how to contact him subscribe to this list please contact me. I have been researching the Harris family for some time now and would love to share notes. Many thanks, Sherry Harris DeLung

About two months ago, a cousin on another line I am working on told me about http://www.findagrave.com and how wonderful it was. I decided to check it out myself. There are two sides to Find A Grave - the famous, and everyone else. I went to the non-famous side and I found alot of information that others, like yourself, have submitted. This was great! Basically you type in a name, and a state where you think they were buried. If anything comes up, it lists it. The same thing with a cemetery look-up (except it lists all the cemeteries with that name and the counties they are in). Now what if the cemetery is there, but your family member is not? Well, if you have the info, you can add them! What if neither the cemetery or person is not there? If you have the info, you can add it. Best of all, it costs NOTHING! You can leave virtual flowers, messages, and even photos! To this date, I myself have submitted over 400 names, a few photos, and virutal flowers. I hope that you will consider visiting this site and making it the best site possible. Rhonda ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! My Roberts family bounced back and forth between Hancock Co., TN and Lee Co., VA. I am in need of their census records for 1900 and believe that they were in Hancock Co., TN at that time. I am looking for the following: Ely/Eli Roberts and wife Lydia/Lyda they should have children Wiley and Elbert in the HH. James Roberts and wife Lillie/Lily. James could possibly be in Eli's HH. Thank you for any assistance you can provide. Terri

Hello Dallas: Below is some Jarnigan info that I found in my files. As I'm primarily a Green(e) researcher, the Jarnigan info is rather sparse and without dates. Maybe it will help a little. NELSON /EVANS REUNION-JULY 14TH All you Nelsons, related families and friends, don't forget the fourth annual Nelson Reunion for the descendants of Jave and Ellen Evans Nelson who were married in Anderson County in 1877. Although records list Jave as J. M. Nelson in Anderson County (and Jabers in one census record), a son's death certificate lists him as Thomas. Jave died in 1926, probably in Illinois, and is buried in Liberty Cemetary in Anderson County. Jave and Ellen's children included David, Henry, Catherine (Tadlock), Frank, Tom, Cynthia (Wilson), Page, Taylor, Sam, and Clara (Yerkes). Ellen's parents were Thomas and Permelia York Evans who came to Tennessee from Knox County, Kentucky. We would be thrilled to hear from any of their descendants. Their children included Hugh, Silas, Ellen, Mary (Phelps), Sintha, Thomas Milton, John, and Mary Ann. They were in Union County, TN, in 1880. Thomas Evans died in Anderson County in 1907 and is buried in Sunset Cemetary. The Nelson Reunion will be at the Farmers Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Saturday July 14, 2001, beginning about 11:00 A. M. in Clinton, Tennessee. There will be lots of fun and games for the kids to enjoy, and hopefully lots of pictures and genealogical material to be enjoyed by the older folks. And there's always lots of good food. For more information, contact Carolyn at <mamawcarolyn@ntown.com>. Hope to see you at the reunion. Carolyn Nelson Johnson
