Subject: Davis family I am trying to locate the parents of my great great grandmother Frances Evaline Davis. She was disowned my her family after her marriage to Thomas G. Britt. I recently made a query on the Davis message board of Rootsweb and received the following info. This is the best lead I have had since beginning my search... 1860 Census, Hancock Co., TN Household 191 Joshua Davis, 30, M, Farming, 2500, 200, TN Nelly, 21, F, Housekeeping, TN Sarah, 7, F, TN Wiley, 5, M, TN Mary, 3, F, TN Infant, 2/12, F, TN 1870 Census, District 7, Hancock Co., TN Household 36 Davis, Joshua, 40, M, W, Farmer, 6000, 2500, TN Ellander, 33, F, W, Keeping House, TN Sarah, 17, F, W, At home, TN Wyley, 15, M, W, Work on farm, TN Mary F, 13, F, W, At home, TN Eveline, 11, F, W, At home, TN Joseph, 9, M, W, At home, TN Lewis, 3, M, W, At home, TN Hillery, 1, F, W, At home, TN Strong probability that Francis Evaline is the Infant in 1860 and is Eveline in 1870. After finding this census data, I also did a search in Google on "Joshua Davis" Hancock Tennessee and got several hits including some that shows Joshua's dob as 12-Aug-1829 and identifies Nellie as Nellie Brewer. Hope this helps. I am hoping someone might have some information on this family are can advise me about my search. Thank you, Kay Rodell
I am taking orders for this book. Anyone interested my email me personally. Barbara
The sixth annual Nelson Family Reunion for the descendants of Jave and Ellen Evans Nelson will be Saturday June 28, 2003, at the Farmers Grove Baptist Church fellowship hall, beginning at 11:30 A. M. Bring covered dishes for lunch, pictures, family stories, and other memorabilia for sharing. We are in the process of compiling a family cookbook, so we would like recipes from everyone. There will be fun and games for the kids after lunch. Jave Nelson is said to be a direct descendant of Joseph Anderson for whom Anderson County is named. Joseph Anderson was a Revolutionary War soldier, U. S. congressman, and first comptroller of the U. S. Treasury. He is buried in the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, D. C. Ellen Evans Nelson's parents were Thomas J. Evans and Permelia York Evans, daughter of Joseph York who was born in Tennessee in 1802, and Mary York. Thomas and Permelia came to Tennessee after the Civil War. Thomas Evans and other family members are buried in Sunset Cemetery in Anderson County. Permelia York Evans supposedly died and was buried at Clouds Switch, TN in Claiborne County, TN in 1901. Jave and Ellen's children included David, Henry, Catherine Nelson Tadlock, Frank, Tom, Cynthia Nelson Wilson, Page, Taylor, Sam, Clara, and two others who died as infants. Jave and Ellen are buried in the Liberty Cemetery near New Salem Baptist Church. Jave possibly had a sister named Margaret. Ellen Evans Nelson's siblings included Hugh Evans, former Clinton city marshall, Silas, Mary Evans Phelps, Martha, Sintha, Thomas Milton and John. Jave Nelson was sometimes called J. M. or Jabers. If any of these names ring a bell, we'd love to hear from you. You may contact: Carolyn Nelson Johnson at <mamawcarolyn@ntown.com>.
