Hi, I redid the front page of the Hancock County site, it was getting to full and taking too long to load. If you find any missing links please let me know.... Carol Turner
Evening List Family, well i have had my questions that i've searched for for a few years now, answered in one email, thanks to one of the members here, i've wondered when my many-gs-grams MARTHA COLLINS HELTON died, since i know my many-gs-gramps was remarried by 1898, i don't know when he, ANDERSON POWELL HELTON remarried, but he was married in a 1898 picture, so he would have had to marry between 1880 and 1898, now i know that my grams MARTHA COLLINS HELTON was alive in the 1880 Census, so i wonder if there's a 1890 one......to pin her death down closer, i think someone once told me that the UNITED STATES DID NOT have a census for 1890, because something happened to all the records ???? is this still correct? if so, how does one find out when anyone died between 1880 and 1900 ?? in kinship, Deborah ~~~~~~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~ Our Family Website; http://www.geocities.com/jaybessieparton maternal side;Tennessee HELTON/HILTON/HYLTON-COLLINS-WILLIAMS-MAYES-WITT/WHITT/WHYTT/DeWITT-LIPTROT-ROGERS-DAUX/DAWKES-MITCHELL-BURGESS-WILSON-BERRY-ANDRESEN-GARLAND-PAINTER-ROSSER-NEAVIL-SMITH-SATTERFIELD-LAMB-and many others paternal side; Kentucky PARTON/PARTIN-HELTON-FOLEY-HUBBARD-LEIGH/LAY-TRIMBLE-TARTER-DORTER-BALTHSER-FLEMING-LOGAN-HAWKINS-ENGLAND-ENGLE-STRUM-BEYERLE-CAMPBELL-WOODS-MUNCY/MUNCIE-WARREN-UTTERBACK/OTTERBACK-COBB-FISHBACK-LOWE-MC/FARLAND-SHERROD-SUTTON-JONES-STANFIELD/STANFILL-THOMAS-PORTER-MAILAND-LAUDERDALE-RICHER/RECTOR-HITT-GOLDEN-GREEN/GREENE-and many more Luke 8:10, Make your own Miracles Our Cattery Website; http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/agapewillows1/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deborah, There is some pieces of the 1890 Census but most of it was lost do to the war. Most of us rely upon State Census and Slave Schudules in place of the 1890 Census. There is some tax list and court records that could help too. There is Veterans, Mortality, and Argiculture Schedules are very help too. Tennessee did have a limited 1891 State. I hope that you find the information you need on one of the above. ~Crystal~ Researching these Surnames: MAYFIELD; POLLOCK; HIGHTOWER; WILDER; MUNCY; MCADOO; THOMAS; SEXTON; NICKODAM(NIKODEM or NIKODAM); MAUDLIN; SIMPSON; BECKNER; MCBRIDE; VAN HOUTAN; HOWERTON; CLINKINGBEARD: GO SOONERS! --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Carol, If you should run accross in the Hancock Co Newspaper, the name C.L.or CHARLES LIDE/LIDY OWENS, would you please send it to me? Charles was my gr-grandpa. He lived in Lee Co Va near Hancock Co. He was murdered December 22 1890. I have been searching for years to see who shot him and why. He was 29 years old. The only thing that was found in the court house,I have been told, was the date he was killed. A few years later Charles's brother WILLIAM OWENS was also shot and killed..no further info on him either. This calendar allows you to add the event yourself so you dont have to email me the information, I thought this would be better and it will prevent erros... There is also one for the Claiborne County TN AHGP site.. My grandmother Junie (Juney) Burke was married to Roy J. Vaughn who was born March 23, 1886 and died July, 1966. Bible records show the marriage to be April 17, 1921. A short time after my father Hugh Kyle Vaughn was born (Jan.18, 1923) in Idol Tn. of Hancock County she died. She was never mentioned to him. Seems to be a real mystery with the family. I found her only in the 1920 census living with her sister Mary Burke ( I have been told that she and Mary were very close, and when Junie died, Mary was given her Bible. (What a find that would be.) Mary married Luther Stapleton, and, I have several OLD and beautiful postcards from Luther to my grandmother, Junie. Luther and Mary lived in Va. (no children), but both are buried in the Burke cemetary in Hancock County. My grandmother isn't. She also had a brother, Harrison Burke (b. 8-14-1891 d.11-14-1988) who was superintendent of schools in the county at one time. Her parents were John Ransom Burke and Martha Ja! ne Chandler. I have info on the family, however, except for the 1920 census ( I have a copy ), one picture of her, and my father's birth certificate, it's like she didn't exist. I have looked through the death records at the library...no luck. I am willing to do all the work to find info about her.....I just don't know the next step to take. Do you have any knowledge of these families or suggestions for me? Thank you for any help you can give Terry Shipley mailto:shipleyt2@msn.com Terry Shipley mailto:shipleyt2@msn.com

I have a picture of an unknown church group. I know that I cannot send attachments to the list, but if anyone thinks they might be able to identify it, I would be glad to scan it to you. From the clothing, I would think it would have been taken in the late 1800's to early 1900's. It would be in either Grainger, Hawkins, Hancock or Claiborne County. The church group is outside the church, and a man that I assume is the Pastor is on his knees in front of them, with an open Bible, and he is pointing upwards, as if to Heaven. I would appreciate any help to identify this picture, It was in my grandmother's pictures.
