I am the granddaughter of John EDENS, born Dec. 23, 1861, Hancock County. His parents were William (M.?) EDENS (born March 20, 1841, Hancock County, d. April 8, 1926, Oklahoma) and Eliza (b. Dec. 21,1842, d. May 12, 1903, Afton, Oklahoma). William Edens served in the Confederate Army, but I don't have any other information, other than that he was wounded and was not able to return home for a couple of years after the end of the war. At some point before Dec. 11, 1887, John Edens left Tennessee and married my grandmother, Mary Frances (Fanny) Fountain in Barry Co., Missouri on aforementioned date. Frances FOUNTAIN was the daughter of Rutha Jane WESTON and granddaughter of Hannah CRUMLEY. Hannah Crumley (a widow) left Greene County, Tennessee sometime between 1837-1864, with her children in a wagon train for Barry County, Missouri. I have a bit more information on the Westons and the Crumleys. Am very interested in more about the Edens. I have the names of John Edens 6 siblings, but not birthdates. ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! My Byrd line lived in and around Hancock County from at least 1860. I found Enoch Bird, farmer, age 27, married to my Elizabeth, age 24 and sons Landon 4 and James 1. Would love to find a record of marriage for Enoch (aka Eppraim) and Elizabeth and also a record of birth of William Cam Byrd/Bird, born 1865. Thanks for anything!!!!!!!!! Well that I have a free moment and finally decided who was my most wanted I will post:) I can not locate parents for my Nancy Brewer b. abt. 1820 d.? Married William King (son of Burrell/Burwell King and Elizabeth Barnes) on Dec. 29, 1841 in Claiborne County, TN. Nancy Brewer and Husband William King are in the 1850 & 1860 Hancock County, Tn census, Nancy states she was born in TN in both census and named 2 of her sons after some of the older Brewers that lived in Hancock County, Larkin and Ambrose. Oral family story is that Nancy was given her last name and that her parents were indian (doesnt every family say this:) this has not been proven or disproven as of yet .Some marriage indexes list Nancy's last name as Braver and looking at the original it could either be Braver or Brewer as the license is very hard to read. I descend from William King and Nancy Brewers daughter Jinsey/Jincey Nervesta King b. 1852 d. sometime after 1910, who married William Johnson b. 1848 d. ? sometime before the 1900 census. So that is my Hancock County most wanted, if anyone has any information on Nancy Brewer I would love to hear from you. Carol Turner

Hi Sherrie: Thank you for all the information on Benjamin Collins (all of them)!!!! You are correct in saying that is my gr.gr.gr.grandmother, Trena Collins Williams in the 1880 Hancock County census, living next to her father, Benjamin and her brothers. Her brother Lee married Harriet Fields. Grandma Trena also named her son Lea. It is spelled Lea, because his real name was Leander. The younger Lea (Lee) didn't marry until 1920, after Mamaw Trena died. He was 49 years old and married Ethel Eagle, who was 14 years old on the 1920 census. There are still several of their children living. That is where I have gotten what information they can remember on the family. But they do not know who Wesley William's parents were. I am curious about the how Elijah and Hillery Williams were heirs of Marvel Collins. I understand about Hillery, since he was married to Mary Collins, but why Elijah Williams? Was his wife also a Collins? You see, Hillery Williams was Wesley and Trena Collins Williams oldest child. This is very interesting, making me believe that indeed, my Wesley Williams was somehow related, if not the son, of Elijah Williams or Charles Williams. Wesley and Trena Collins Williams second child, Ellen, was my gr.gr.grandmother. She married Jesse Bunch in October 1880 in Hancock County. Thank you so much for your reply and your kindness in helping me. Hi I have Chrles Williams with 2 more children. Isaac born about 1835 died Unknown and no wife. Rebecca born about 1825 died unknown married to Marvel Collins son of Benjamin Collins and Nancy unknown. Don't know where I got them from. Over the years have collected alot of info from online cousins.
1870 Hancock Co shows Polly Ann CLOUD, aged 27, b TN, with children Sarah 11 TN; Orlena 8 MO; Joseph 4 MO; and Lauriel?, male, 1 TN. She was living next door to William CLOUD (31 TN). I believe he was a grandson of Joseph CLOUD & Jane CARPENTER. Can anyone identify the maiden name of Polly Ann? Was she a widow or unmarried with children? If widow, what was husband's name? I cannot find her in 1880 -- she may have remarried. Imogene Bennett Springfield, MO Imogene.Bennett@att.net

Seeking parents and siblings of Mary Carpenter born 1878 in TN. In 1894 she married John Sampson Williams born also in 1878 in Hancock County. Their first child Elisha was born in 1897 and two girls followed, Nellie and Lydia. Nellie died as a young child. Their daughter Lydia grew up, married Mr. Baker (what was his name?), and had three boys including twins. Lydia died young and it is not known what happened to her children. Some say they went to live with John's half sister Laura and others say they went to an orphanage. 1900 Census for Hancock County Tennessee, District 70, page 203A next to his father and grandfather: John Williams born Mar 1878 age 22, married 3 years, born in TN and both parents born in TN Farmer renting his own farm which is on the farm schedule as #88; Mary born Jan 1878 age 22, married, born in TN and both parents born in TN, has born one child and one child living; and Elisha born Nov 1897 age 2, born in TN. Both John and Mary were able to read, write, and speak English. Family oral history is that Mary died young, but her death date is unknown.
I would like to have a list of the children of Charles "Charlie" Williams, and wife Rebecca. On the 1850 Hancock County census, Charles is 56 b. NC, Rebecca is 61, and according to Rev. Arthur Taylor's notes, Isaac age 15 is their grandson. I know Charles had sons, Timothy Williams, who married Lottie Collins, and son Elijah with wife Nancy. Those are the only two children of Charles and Rebecca's that I know. My gr.gr.gr.grandfather, Wesley Williams, is parentless right now, and I thought he might possibly be a son of Charles and Rebecca Williams. He could be a son of Elijah's, but I have a list of his children from Rev. Arthur Taylor's notes, and Wesley is not listed. I know he is not Timothy's son, unless he was by another wife, other than Lottie Collins Williams, after she died. Wesley was married to Trena Collins, daughter of Benjamin and Jane Ledbetter? Collins. He died in his thirties of kidney failure, and Trena never re-married. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am beyond stuck on Wesley's parents.
My most wanted for Hancock County is William Francis Parks, father of William Thomas and Ira F. Parks. He was born around 1850 and married/not married to Mary Jane Vicars. Can't really pin him down for sure after 1880. Once thought he was deceased by then as Mary Jane, William Thomas and Ira were all living in Scott Co., Virginia with Mary Jane's mother on that census. However, it seems that he was alive around the turn of the century as I've been given a picture of him taken with James M. Sizemore near that time. If anyone has any info on him, I'd appreciate the help. Surnames: Parks, Pearcy, Vicars, Sizemore, Delp and Alder. Thanks! Jan Parks Tecumseh, OK
Thanks Carol and great idea! I am looking for information on Perry Mills born abt 1844 in the War Creek area of Hancock County and is listed in the 1850 Hancock Census. He was the son of Hezekiah "Carr" "Kiar" Mills and Rosa Wolfe Mills. Hezekiah and Rosa's children were Telitha Mills Walker buried on Enos Ferguson's property. Peter Mills was born 1836 and died in Cass County, Missouri in 1874. John Finland Mills, married to Mary Leger, died in Hancock County and buried across the road from Enos Ferguson's property in McCoy\Mills Cemetery. Jesse Berry Mills married Mahuldah (Hulda Howling) Wolfe and died in Springer, Oklahoma, and William Riley Mills born 1840 and married Alice Jane "Ally" Barnard. So Perry is my missing link from Hancock County and he is not in the 1860 census. I have tried all census and can not locate. I suspect that he died before 1860, but no proof or info. Thanks again Carol! Great Idea. Caswell Coffey 1806 NC - 1882 Grainger Co., TN has been credited with several children born 1830-1858. Caswell has also been credited with several wives. Until 1860, no first name of any wife has been found, and there is a Nancy with Caswell in the 1850 with 3 children, all born in the 1850's. However Caswell most likely is the father of: Sarah Coffey 11/01/1838 - 01/24/1904, married Wiley Province Joel Coffey c 1840 - 03/12/1912, married Suzanne Rebecca Brewer Rebeccah Coffey c 1842, no other information Orrena Coffey 07/01/1843 - 05/25/1918, married first Richardson Coffey, second John W. White Thomas Nelson Coffey 12/25/1849 - 12/09/1917, married first Cornelia Coffey, second Jane Hodge. Caswell is not the father of William Carroll Coffey born c 1831 married a Martha Jane. I have been in contact with descendents of W.C. Coffey and they also do not know who William Carroll's father was. I suspect the father was a sibling of Caswell's. It is thought that Sarah, Joel, Rebeccah, Orrena, and Thomas were children born to _______ Jordan. No one has gotten a name for this Unknown Jordan, but others think it could be Nancy. The Nancy (c 1825 - 11/02/1860) with Caswell in the 1850 census most likely was keeing the younger children for Caswell altho that does not solve the riddle of Collins Coffey, Mary Jane Coffey, and Elizabeth Coffey, all born in the mid-1850's to Nancy. It has not been proven Caswell is the father of these children. There was a Nancy Coffey born c 1825 who has been assumed was Caswell's daughter, but this most likely is not true. There were no children listed for newly wed Caswell Coffey in 1830. This Nancy died 11/2/1860. I do not know what happened to her children. This Nancy's death was written in the White family Bible. Arrena (a daughter of Caswell) was married to John W. White. It is either his Bible or his father's which has the death information. If anyone knows of ANY Jordan ladies in Hawkins Co., TN, the part which later becomes Hancock Co., TN, please contact me. Sheri Kelly "Genealogy IS Perpetual!" Hi to all, Last months messages hit 86, that is more than has been posted here in awhile. I am not the list owner here but thought it might be fun to list one most wanted ancestor that you have in Hancock County, TN. Not just surnames but one person who was in Hancock County, Tn and you need info on... You might want to consider posting it also to the query board on the Hancock County site so that anyone who is coming to the site will see it, they may not be on this list... The only way to find information is to post and sometimes post again:) New people to the list may not be familiar with the way they work and may not know that they can view the archives...I did not know for awhile myself. To help weed through the posts to the list put your ancestors name and a date if you know it not just Most wanted... If are a member of the Yahoo group you might want to post it there as there seems to be a few members who found that group from the Hancock County site... Just a thought for keeping the list going:) Carol Turner Owner of "Looking Back " Newsletter, http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~lookingback/welcomepage.htm Hancock County TN, TNGenWeb County Coordinator http://www.tngenweb.org/hancock/ Yahoo Group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Hancockctygenealogy/ Johnson County, TN, TNGenWeb County Coordinator http://www.tngenweb.org/johnson/ Claiborne County, TN AHGP County Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnclaib3/
